As for what food thats very much a case of personal preference, both for the owner and the dog

Broadly speaking dog food falls into three main catogories
BARF (bones and raw food)
Tin food with mixer biscuit
Complete Dry Food

I would hazard a guess that complete dry food is now the most popular due to the convenience factor, followed by tins. Feeding a BARF diet, although having a lot going for it, is probably in the minority due to the effort involved in getting and preparing it

Whats he being fed on now? Is there any reason to change?

I am not sure the reason for chaning unless he is getting upset with the food he getting now.
But he is apprantly a very cuewing dag and for some reason she was just "nosy" in what you would recomend

You'll probably get as many different answers to what's the best food, as there are posts, but if he is doing well on the food he has is there any need to change.
All puppies chew - and labradors do it more than most, for a number of reasons, teething, exploring (in the same way babies put things in their mouths), boredom, anxiety, but it is not related to food.
