That sounds ok to me, like us all dogs are different though, CJ is 17 months and has weighed in at around 40 KG since he was 11 months, he is on a diet atm though as I consider he may have added a bit more :? , little git steals off the worktop, and no I still hav`nt learnt to put things away! 8O.

My Older fully grown dog is 30 kilos, my 2yr old bitch 24kilos and look fine according to my vet when I took them for their jabs recently. I asked him because I thought they were looking thin - he told me they were supposed to look like they did- I was being led astray by chunkier labs in the Park- Working labs I am told tend to be lighter than show style
How true this is.....I think it maybe a 'rule of thumb' rather than a 'golden one'.
I think the 'size' of the dog counts to I have never seen a LAbrador as BIG and beautiful as CJ and his weight 'looks' about right from his picture,If my Jet were 40 Kilos he would have to be renames his nick name of Sir Tub of Lard permanently- mainlyused when his nose has made him deaf to his real name!!!!

Further to my above post, I emailed Burns and they said:

According to our charts (taken from 'Small Animal Clinical Nutrition' 2000) the average adult Labrador is 25-36Kg. At 6-7 months old they should therefore weigh an average of 16-23Kg.

These weights are based on puppies fed on diets which are higher in protein and fat than Burns. Burns has been developed to help the dog grow slowly as this is much healthier for the joints.

So most are in the right range. :D

Could you post pictures of him? one from the side and one from above? it is impossible to conclude whether he is overweight or not without actually seeing him.

Weights within the breed vary greatly. Part of your dogs final weight will depend on the size of his parents, his line (show or field), and how much food/exercise he is getting. Technically there is no 'average size'. I have seen Labs as small as 45lbs and as large as 100lbs, however the majority fall within these extremes.

Hi there

We (well, Chris, I didn't dare get on the scales!) weighed Smudge today and he weighed in at 30.5 kgs. He is nearly 14 months old.

He's getting a bit big now for Chris to hold whilst they're both on our scales.....and our scales are a little small for Smudge to stand on alone! lol! It makes an interesting sight!

At just over 14 months Charlie was given his vaccination boosters/health check and weighed 34 kilos.

According to the vet he is in good condition, though at the upper end of OK weight-wise, so we must continue to be dilligent with his exercise and careful with his food, as we normally are being.

All of the males from Charlie's litter seem to be on the chunky side. I regularly come across several of them. All seem to be already bigger than both of their parents 8O 8O I moved him off puppy food at a year rather than the recommended 18 months for that reason - he definitely does not need to put on any more, and looks and acts great as he is.
