Dog Toy Squeaker Question?

Does anyone know how to stop the squeaker in a dog toy squeaking? A friend (and I use that term loosely now!!!) brought our lovely puppy Humble a toy dragon with a squeaker in each foot which he now makes ‘beautiful’ music on!! As we are a household that gets up at 5am everyday at which time this morning Humble was in full concert mode squeaking each foot alternately (nobody likes a smarty pants Humble!!) I feel I should de-squeak the thing before any neighbourly complaints!! I don’t want to confiscate it as Humble has fallen in love with it and I don’t have the heart. I won’t be spoiling all his fun as the squeaker in the toy’s stomach makes a quacking noise which we can put up with (I wasn’t aware dragons were so good at impressions!!). Any help appreciated.

I'm afraid, just like with my children, toys all go away at bedtime and don't come out again until I'm up and about..and even then, if they are getting on my nerves, they get put away. The only thing they are allowed overnight is either a soft (non squeaky) toy or a pillow to snuggle with in their crate, when they are tiny pups.

I don't know how you could de-squeak a toy like that, as you can't get to the squeaker valves. Normal plastic squeaky toys can be de-squeaked by sticking a pin in the valve and breaking the reeds inside.

Squaky toys like that usually have a little inflatable circular section that deflates and re-inflates to squeak.

If you proddle around you should be able to feel the circles in his legs? A good thick sewing needle right through should ensure that they are permanently deflated without destroying the toy.

I suspect a lot of humlbes fun may go when the noise does though

I agree with Jules - why don't you present the toy only when you do not mind it squeaking? Removing the squeakers may also ruin the fun. In addition, when Humble realizes that you are controlling such a valuable resource as access to the dragon (!!) you will get lots of browny points as the leader...

Aww meanie! I am always in trouble for letting Sam have squeeky toys in the first place!  but he LOVES them. You could de-squeek with a needle but I personally follow Jules advice and toys go away at bedtime except one nylabone to chew on in his crate and a tuffy no squeek toy to cuddle. The rest are mine! I think Elena is right that if they don't have them all the time it makes them even more fab when they do get to play with them so don't feel bad like anything if you gave kids sweets all the time they'd lose their value and its the same with the dog's toys IMHO! Sounds like you're having a great time though. 8)

I was going to suggest a needle too if you are desperate to de-squeak.

Ours don't have access to squeaky toys constantly because my poor collie is terrified of the noise, so they have to have them outside/away from him!

Thanks everyone - I've have taken your advice and dragon slaying will only take place for half an hour in the morning now once we hear that our neighbours' baby has woken them up (tee hee)!! The rest of the time Dragon is shut away in the cupboard under the stairs. I feel a bit bad for Dragon as it feels like he's now a member of the family but he doesn't seem to mind he still has a smile on his face!!!! Humble was so pleased to see him this morning it was very sweet!!!!

I wish the idea that some of you mentioned that if you have something all the time it looses its appeal would work with me and chocolate!!!!

Thanks again
