to their dogs diet. Just been talking to another owner who adds a teaspoon each day to their food to keep joints supple. At 6 months do I start to add now or is there anything better you can recommend, or is it not needed :?

To be honest I heard cod liver oil can calcify in a dogs system :? not 100% if thats sure but instead I add salmon oil to my dogs food, as I have been assured this is better for them, at 6mths I personally wouldn't be adding anything but concentrating instead on feeding a good quality complete diet. But thats only my opinon sure others will be along to help
hiya my labs also had cod liver capsules in there meals..
they also have a tin of lovely smelly sardines which is great for there coats (just dont let them kiss you afterwards smelly..lol)
Like Nicola, I use fish oil. Personally, I would not use cod liver oil as it contains vitamins A and D which are not soluble so it is possible to overdose on it causing liver damage. In addition, cod liver oil is not as good a source of omega (which improves skin, coat and joints)as body fish oil and there is no worry about overdosing with fish oils.
I have been told that cod liver oil is not the way to go for dogs, mine have fish oil and evening primrose during and after a season. Have also given flaxseed oil in the past which is excellent
