Hi everyone. After this nightmare is finally
over I will be off to find my new best friend. Please has anyone any advice on what is the best food to feed to my chocolate labrador? Thanks.

Ask 100 people and you will get 100 different answers. What I will say though is this. Ask your breeder what he/she has been using and start with this. A puppy has so much to contend with during those early few days. Strange people, strange new home, without also having a strange food. Once puppy has settled in is time to start thinking about changing the food to whatever you decide on. But my advice is to look for something easily available locally, it makes life so much easier.

Dogs in the wild are opportunist feeders, eating what they find. Yet pet food manufacturers put out the story that dogs need the same food all the time or it will cause stomach upsets. This is great for the manufacturer because it gives him a captive market. It's also a self fulfilling prophecy! Feed one food for long enough and the stomach gets use to it and anything different WILL cause problems. But I start almost from day one giving mine a little of what I have, even including such things as Spag Bol and Chinese Sweet and Sour Chicken, and my dogs grow up with cast iron stomachs! Can eat anything! Back in the days of my first dog there were almost no dog food available and he, like most dogs of that era lived on table scraps. Interestingly he grew to be the oldest dog I've ever owned so it did him no harm. This was the time of food rationing after the war and once a week the butcher used to deliver us a bag of bones for him, cost, one old penny. Sometimes when my mother was going through them she would find one with quite a bit of meat on it. This would go into the pot with peas, carrots and onions, making a lovely beef stew for dinner! So not only did he get some of our food, but on occasions we got to eat some of his! ;)
