We are away for a week at Bacton in Norfolk. I have let Mina off the lead here as it's quiet and I want to get her behaving. But as a lady said today "That dogs got a mind all of her own" which is not something new. She does come back to me when she's ready, but today she decided that after digging and running, meeting the lady and her dogs she would run to the jetty some .5 miles

away and wait for me to come home. Just wish I could get her to behave like a normal dog at this time, coming back to the owner instead of the other way round. Problem is I can't shout anymore, or blow a whistle, best I can do is stoop and slap my leg which rarely gets a response.

Decided to follow my own advice to my son regarding his dog Mylo. The advice was "try trusting your dog"
Today we have been to the beach 4 times and each time I've let Mina free, but have always been sure to stay in sight. The previous day I didn't do that so she may have got confused. Today I clapped my hands and she returned to me most times. I don't want to use treats, want her to just accept praise. I don't have any problems calling Mylo back, because he's Grandad's dog and attaches to me like Velcro:D. Mina is a bit more worldly wise and thinks about things:unsure:

We are back now having driven for 3.5 approx hours. Mina was sick in the car as usual but getting more relaxed these days.
Yesterday Midday I thought I let Mina loose just one last time as it was our last day. She did her usual loping run, digging in the sand greeting a couple of dogs, then went up some steps to the top of the Cliff and scooped under a gate. I stood and waited then she appeared again, looking down (Laughing I suspect). I had to climb the steps into another Caravan park and capture her, took a while but did it in the end. I think she thought it was a game. Catch me if you can! One chap came out of his chalet and was not amused. I lied and told him Mina had slipped out of her lead. The little Minx, just when I thought I could trust her!
That's the last freedom session she's getting now for a while!

Aw, she sounds lively! I can commiserate in the hopes it'll give you a laugh.

I've only had one chance to take my dog to the beach so far and she was about 8 months old, the beach was basically empty (strategically timed) and she had a great run round, tried to eat some shells, stayed pretty close and it was all wonderful.

While I was past knee deep in the sea with her hopping around in the shallows next to me, some people arrived waaaaaay up the beach throwing a ball for their dog and she just bolted. She's never gone for anything that far away in her life!

It was low tide so the sea was miles out, she was so fast, and I was unfortunately in my swimming gear doing a budget version of Baywatch for, genuinely, a solid 2-3 minute run up the sand to catch her. Mortifying!

She had the time of her life, of course.
