I have been seraching in the search bit and have found lots on classes but not the answer to my question-do I enrol my pup in classes or not?? I have many dogs in my life thanks to friends and will have no probs getting him to meet other dogs. Is my own training going to be sufficient from what I have learnt from books and this fantastic site or am I being naive and classes are my best bet?? Any help from those of you in the know would be MUCH appreciated. Thanks. :?

We did puppy socialisation classes from 8 weeks old and puppy beginner training classes a little while after. Hudson had lots of other dogs to socialise with as well but I found it invaluable during the socialisation process and a nice easy introduction to training.

I love classes. For me it is not just about socialisation and training, but also about getting together with like-minded people and enjoying their company. I also get to see first hand that I am not alone in any problems I may be having.

So, a yes from me, but that is just my point of view, as I don't live with lots of other dogs really. Just my own two.

A definite yes from me. Jet and I have enjoyed our weekly training classes so much so that 3 years later we still go along each week.

It's not so much that Jet needed training it was more that I needed to learn. It's easy to have a well behaved dog at home with no distractions but you need to train alongside other dogs so you know your dog will do as you ask when you're out and about too. And it's fun meeting up with like minded people too.

I would do it. I started off with Penny and Millie but because we had the two together classes were difficult and we actually got expelled as they were quite naughty, focussing on each other and paying no attention.

Now, I really wish I had persevered, they are not excessively naughty but not brilliantly trained and I would definately do it with another pup in the future.

I did the pupy training classes with my last dog and tbh i really didnt learn anything that i didn;t already know. Alfie isn;t going to any, what i know and what ive learned in having a previous dog..well if he;s as well behave as Madison i'll be more than happy.... He is very social thanks to our local park where all the doggies play.

I would go. Mainly as it's a time set aside each week to work together. Your pup may meet other dogs and that's great for his socialisation and yours. But classes will give you goals to set yourselves and will make sure your pup can work with all the distractions around him.

Also it's agreat place to show off your pup and meet others his age.

lol jammy!! My friends pup actually got 'held back a year' before he got expelled, so you're not alone!! Thanks all for the advice......classes it is!! Just off to google some in my area.... :wink: :wink:
