Hello All,
Our little fella came home saturday night. I have a couple questions.
1) when crate training and he wines and yelps when he realizes the door is closed. I've read that your not supposed to let him out until he stops wining...how long is an acceptable time when he's wining, it seems like he's not going to stop. Will he wine himself to sleep?
2) He's 7 weeks old. When he playes with his stuffed animals he "humps" alittle...is this normal? Should I be scolding him?
3) What is a good solution for a chemical that will breakdown the scent of urin and poo?

Thank you all for your help. Manford appreciates it as well!

Yes, let him winge, give him plenty of treats, and toys in his crate, feed him in there and he will soon realise that this is his place, Murphy hates his crate so after a while we got rid of it

Yes Murphy does this and we were told this is normal play

We use a specialist cleaner from the pet store its for cleaning up poo and wee and gets rid of the scent, its safe for carpets, wood floors etc, if not biological washing powder is the only cleaner that will mask the smell and prevent your dog form going in the same place

Good luck

Hi AmFriday,

Welcome to Labforums.

Congratulations on your new little bundle of fun - it's all a learning curve to start of with isn't it. Feel free to ask as many questions as you like, there's always someone who will answer, and give you some helpful advice.

We keep a bottle of Zoflora disinfectant in, which smells lovely and the frgrance lingers too... is great for adding to warm water when cleaning your floor too.

Have fun with Manford, and we look forward to hearing more about him

Kind Regards

Julie

Crate Training

Hi

We had the same problem with Jess and the crate, she used to whine until i could listen no more and we would let her out. Then one day we just let her whine and whine until she lay down and stopped.

I took a while but we always left the door open when she went in by herself and let her go in and out when she wanted.

Never put them in as a punishment though as it becomes a place where they go when they have done something bad and it'll be a nightmare to get them to go anywhere near it.

Hi,

When you clean up after your pup has gone to toilet avoid using ammonia products to clean up because the smell may remind your dog of its own urine and go again in the same place. I used diluted biological washing powder, smelt nice and got rid of the smell. Also don't punish him for his accidents as it will just make him nervous. As for the humping, well I hate to say it but my pup is 7 months old and he still does it to his teddy bears, I think its just one of those things :lol:HTH Hope manford settles in well.
