Hi all
We have a lab retriever who is now 11 months old, we also have a Cocker Spaniel who is now 15 weeks who we have had for 7 weeks. The trouble is when they are together they play rough, usually the lab (heavyweight) knocking the spaniel (lightweight) about while the spaniel starts snapping in defence. At no time is there any nastiness or growling and tails wag throughout. We are at a loss to know what to do next. Any ideas would be welcome.
Thanks

Basically take charge! They are both puppies and puppies play, but an 11 month old Labrador is heavy enough to do damage to a 15 week old Cocker. I always supervise puppy play and step in when it starts to get rough with a very sharp "Oie, pack it in you too!" and if necessary physically separate them. There is no messing, my word is law! puppy play is great fun, and dog relations is a partnership, but it's not an equal partnership, the human MUST be the one in charge

If needs be separate them, if you haven't already got a crate set up they're a good idea, not just to enforcing a pup to calm down when needed, but also good for separate feeding, and generally keeping them out of the way when needed.
