In a week today, we’ll have a new yellow girl joining us (if my car makes the journey there and back again).

It was too good an opportunity to miss, dad is the son of a dual champion and mum the daughter of a British show champion and Swiss champion. I have pick of the girls (6 to choose from) and the breeder is going to help me pick a show girl. Lovely chunky pups with super pigmentation. I’m very excited. Freddie is still hard work but I’ve the time to give to them both. My two oldies really just need lots of love and cuddles, which they get in spades, and Lulu is my hubby’s dog.

At the moment, she’s going to be called Bryony, Bryony May :D to go with Freddie Mercury.

Dual Champion Nicola??? Is that in France? I take it that it's not UK. There has not been a dual champion Labrador in the UK since 1946 and only ever 10 since the breed was formed.

Banchory Bolo 1915
Banchory Sunspeck 1917
Titus of Whitmore 1919
Flute of Flodden 1922
Bramshaw Bob 1929
Banchory Painter 1930
Lochar Nessie 1933
Staindrop Saighdear 1944
Rockstead Footspark 1945
Knaith Banjo 1946

Since that time Field Trials have got so specialised I really don't see there ever being another Dual Champion, at least in the retriever group. (Goldens and Flatcoats are very difficult to make up into FT Ch let alone Dual Champion because the Labrador almost always has the beating of them in the Retriever group.) HPR's are a different kettle of fish, and there have been several Dual Champions there in recent times. Working Clumbers are so far from show Clumbers that there is no chance there. Added to which Springers and Cockers have the beating of them in trials.

John :)

Thinking about it, I imagine you mean a Multiple Champion Nicola? A champion in more than one country, rather than a Dual Champion, a champion in both the show ring and a Field Trials Champion?

The last person to make up a Dual Champion in any breed, anywhere in the world that I know of was Mary Carson In America, who made up a UK bred German Shorthaired Pointer, bred by Ruby and Jim Field in Oxford. This was sadly some years ago now, and shortly after Mary had a stroke. She was in the habit of phoning me to chat about eye problems during the evening, evening in Phoenix Arizona, which unfortunately was around 2 to 3am here in the UK! But she was (is?) a lovely person. I've not heard from her for some years so don't know if she is still around. :)
