Default Midland gundog training day - Sunday 13 November

Okay, we now have a date for the first of the Midland LF gundog training sessions - Sunday 13th November.

Venue will be near Ashby de la Zouch, Leicestershire.

Beginners/Puppies (min. age 6 months) will be in the morning approx. 9.30am - 12 noon, followed by soup & roll lunch (provided).

Improvers (any age!) will be in the afternoon approx. 1.30pm - 4pm, followed by afternoon tea & cake (provided)

Price 30 per handler/per session.

Places will be strictly limited to just 6 dogs/handlers per class, so that participants get ample help and attention. (If there is overriding demand for Beginners sessions then I will change the format to two Beginners sessions, but I won't be able to gauge this until people start booking places).

Class definitions/requirements:

Beginners - as it says on the tin really! No need for any prior experience, as this will be an 'introduction to gundog work'. The session will begin with a brief demonstration of what can be achieved with gundog training, and then work through all the necessary steps of obedience, before looking at basic retrieving skills.

Improvers - the next step up. Dogs should have reasonable basic obedience and heelwork (on and off the lead). They should also be (relatively!) steady to other dogs working, and not be prone to noise (barking and excessive whining). We will be covering marked (seen) retrieves, memory retrieves and introducing basic handling skills/whistle work.

To reserve a place, please contact me on [email protected] or 07879 607993. Full details will be sent out via email to all attendees.

Can you tell me more about the improvers class? Moss has a pretty good training in obedience, is steady around other dogs, is very focused on learning etc but has never done any formal retrieving (he has a very enthusiastic play fetch! ) - would he be ok in this class? I think a beginners class might be too basic for him if it's all about basic obedience and heel work etc.
If I can get Moss into the improvers class than I would love to get Millie in the beginners class, make a full day out of it

If his obedience is good in a group of other dogs, and he can heel off lead, you should be fine. With a small group, we can somewhat adapt to the needs of each dog, pushing some on that are capable, and giving others 'toned down' versions....
