Question Homemade dog food

Hi everyone! So my chocolate Labrador has been a picky eater since day one when we got her, she'll eat anything but her dog food! The last straw was when she didn't eat for three days straight and trust me wee have tried everything! I have started to cook her meal by stratch and she absolutely loves them she is eating regularly now and seems a lot more happier

For breakfast I feed her scrambled egg with oats and for her dinner I give her Turkey, brown rice, sweet potatoe and a range of vegetables including carrots, sports, broccoli etc
Does anyone feed their dog homemade food? Does anyone have any tips, advice or recipes would be greatly appreciated !

Always amazes me when people say they have a lab (or any dog) that's a fussy eater!!
I know it's quite common and my mother-in-enemy has a lurcher who is the fussiest of the lot

Jude will eat anything apart from mushroom or banana

Your dog sounds lucky to have a dedicated owner, our Judy would love you as scramble egg is one of her favourites

Fair play and good luck

I used to cook for mine - steamed white fish and plain mashed potato is the favourite of one and yoghurt/rice pudding for the other. I used to batch cook and freeze in portions so that I could pop them in the microwave for easy mealtimes. Mine actually eat tinned chappie now and adore it but plenty of people do cook for their dogs all of the time, chicken & rice, scrambled egg, fish and potato - herring/salmon/cod etc, some people use tapioca, sweet potato, quinoa. Lots of people cook tuna cake and liver cake to use as treats. The main thing to be careful of is which human foods are poisonous to dogs for example onions, raisins, chocolate so ensure you check, the dogs trust have a handy list and I think there is one on here somewhere. I will leave it to those who are still home-cooking to give you further advice

Hi @DJGoody yes surprised me! My uncle had a golden lab and he was so greedy and would eat anything he got his paws at I thought mine would be the same lol!

@paws thank you for the recommendations I will try to use fish some time as well! That's what I'm currently doing know making big batch portions and freezing them to keep for a week then pop in the microwave. It's surprisingly a lot cheaper then buying dry and wet food and I like that I know I'm feeding her healthy good things. I willdefintely look at the list thanks!!

Yes, I provide homemade dog food to my pet and he is healthy. Your Labrador will definitely love well prepared homemade foods.

Hmm firstly I wonder if it is worth a trip to the vet. A Labrador who is off it's food is a worry in my opinion. They love for their food!

I do actually home cook, always have done for my Labs. They get turkey, venison, salmon, beef with rice or sweet potato, eggs, bit of cottage cheese, live yoghurt and some fruit and veg.

Not many dog owners feed their dog with raw food (what I mean personally), how about raw food diet recipe? Has anyone ever tried it?

Many dogs, particularly Jack Russell's prefer raw postmen to kibble!

Yes....I currently feed branded BARF complete minced products. Presently feeding Wolftucker & have fed other brands her too....Natural Instinct, Nutriment & Paleo Ridge.

Keen not to threadjack or take the OP's thread off topic....Samcorry glad your dog doing ok on home cooked & hope this is due to an appreciation of your cooking & not due to health issues.
