Im going to housesit my mums house next week whilst she is on holiday, this technically will be my holiday as well, as its better than staying in my four square walls lol.

Ive got a kindle and would like to download some dog related books/stories to read whilst Im down there with the doglets. Looking for more story related ones that training ones tbh as a bit of a change.

Ive read Marley and me and a couple about a Cavalier called George, Last dog on the Hill etc, anyone got any others that theyve really liked?

Just bumping this up as I've had some Christmas/birthday money and am spending it all on the books I've had bookmarked from this thread months ago

I really didn't enjoy Bruce fogles follow up, ' a dog abroad' tbh, I like the first though :)

In addition to those already mentioned 'merles door' by Ted Kerasote, again not sure it'll be on kindle.

Fiona - Have you read 'in defense of dogs' ? the guardian write up made me add it to my list when it first came out, not bought it yet.
My OH has bought it for me for holiday reading and has been reading it himself with much interest and enjoyment.
I've read a chapter here and there and skimmed other sections but we're not going away till the 20th.
John Bradshaw directs the Anthrozoology Institute at the University of Bristol and has studied dog behaviour for 25 years. As the blurb says the book challenges the caricature of the wolf in a dog suit, ready to dominate its unsuspecting owner. It's a brilliant and very readable book (of the sort that enhances the experience of dog ownership and makes one love them the more for their dogginess rather than for what we project on to them) and I'm sure you would enjoy it.
What did you think of it when you'd read it all? I absolutely loved every page and found it SO interesting to read. I refer back to it all the time so am glad I got it in hardback as a paperback would be falling apart by now!

I got in defence of dogs for Xmas. I put it on my list after it was recommended on this thread. It's brill so far. It's non fiction, but very interesting his views on why dogs behave the way they do. The author is in now way a fan of a certain Mexican dog whisperer!

I can never bring myself to read them as I have read one and ended up going through nearly a box of tissues but a really good book i have heard of is by Michael Morpurgo called Born to run it's a hear warming book so you may need tissues. Another one by him is called shadow. they are for older children but an easy to read book is sometimes nice especially if you have a house full of dogs to entertain!! :)
