Hello

I watched this film at the weekend - has anyone else seen it?

It's not exactly an Oscar-winner, but Marley the dog was very funny - especially the part where he ran off with his lead still attached to the cafe table! And he made my dog look well behaved in comparison!

Has anyone named their lab Marley after seeing the film - or found that their children want a lab as a result?!

ooo how ironic, as Baxter (my nearly 8 week old puppy) are sat on the sofa watching this now! I have seen it before but thought I'd watch it again on Sky movies (hubby recorded it for me).

We didn't get Baxter as a result of watching it tho.... I still had my St. Bernard at the time :0(

I like the bit where he is walking/hanging out of the car window :0)

wailed and wailed and wailed.

It's exactly the life and times of my old boy DINO. We lost Dino in the October and the blessed book was a stocking filler from someone that christmas - 3 attempts and a few months later i sat up one sunday night to finish the G** Damn thing and wailed until i couldn't breathe.

Then wailed again when i saw the film, and again when i watched it with my mother.

But great book, great story, great film - just get the tissues out.

I did cry all the way through the film (and I was at the cinema) but I thought it was very poor compared to the book. The casting was all wrong especially the labs who changed by the scene and sometimes went from older to younger looking rather then the other way round.

Saying that films are never as good as the books are they?

I agree that the book is much better than the film - but i did still like the film as I'm a total softie! I read the book ages before I got Poppy so it certainly didn't affect my decision - i already liked labs! I believe that one of Poppy's sisters is called Marley.

I absoloutly love the film, i think the book is better but the film is just fab, so so sad and i cried...a lot!! but i can watch it over and over :) We got Hunter after Marley and Me came out but not because it came out, it means all the more now we have a dog of our own and i cried all the more when me and hubby watched it with him!

It is a bit teary at the end, isn't it? The part where the children are standing around the grave each saying their piece definitely makes me well up.

But there are some really funny moments too - the car window scene had me in stitches, and the part where he runs off with the cafe table still attached to his lead!

Especially when one kid is asked does he want to say anything and he just says "he knows", I was wailing. When we came out the cinema people were staring at me as my face was so red and swollen from crying from beginning to end

Hi everyone.
Just been reading this thread. I watched the film "Marley & Me" and adored it! I needed and wanted a labrador right after I watched this film. I just wanted one to hug and to hold. It is one of the best doggy films I have ever seen. I wailed and wailed and wailed a lot too at the very end of the film. What tore me apart was the bit where she took off her necklace at the little funeral. She buried the necklace with Marley because he swallowed it. That choked me.
Although, I cried well before that. I started to cry at the bit were they found Marley under the tree, lying down. Very sad indeed but the best movie I have ever seen.

I read the book a couple of years before the film came out and the book is far better than the film! Although the film is very close to the book(unlike some films) I saw it at the cinema and all you could hear was sniffling in the auditorium!!!I don't think there was a dry eye in the house!

When I first read the book I'd taken it for a holiday read in Crete.I got some funny looks when I was laughing out loud at the funny bits and then crying at the sad bits!! 8O 8O

We love the film and the book. I started crying when Marley put his head in her lap when she lost the baby and didn't stop crying until the film finished!! We used the film when we paid this tribute to our girl Ellen on Facebook when we lost her in July:

We lost our other black girl this afternoon - the pain from her Arthritis had become too much for her and we had to let her go. To Our Nellie - life will never be the same without you and in the words of the Marley and Me film - 'you were the naughtiest dog in the world but we loved you everyday'. Sleep tight baby xxxxxxxx

Loved the film and the book. Not the reason we got a lab though, we were looking at rescue dogs without a specific breed in mind - but looking for the right dog for us.

I watched the film shortly after having our beloved GSD pts - not a good idea :( Me and the kids when to bed in tears. I also loved the bit where he was hanging out of the moving car.

i`ve seen the film and cried the entire way through it although i can`t watch it now as marley looks a lot like my banjo and it just hurts too much to watch it.

not too keen on marley`s actual owners irl though after they bought another pup and to prevent the bad behaviour marley presented they hired the worst dog trainer in the world!

i wanna try to read the book as i`ve heard it`s so much better, maybe one day i`ll pluck up the courage but it`s gonna be hard to read through blurry vision

I've both read the book and watched the film, my big mistake being finishing the book on my birthday (anyone who has watched of read the film will understand :) )
I read the book in-between buying Poppy and picking her up at 8 weeks and I think it was good because it didn't put me off having Poppy but prepared me for the worse possible situation! After reading the book I thought Poppy was very easy!
I think its a beautiful story and even though Marley is naughty I think it does the character of a lab justice :)

Love Beckie and Poppy x
