Yay - I received my book today from Labrador Rescue North West
Not read it properly yet but had a flick through and its brilliant. Just the thing I need to get my head around this gundog stuff!
Love the bit about trainining your pup to the stop whistle. I can see I will have to practice blowing a whistle and following with the voice commands at the same time - apparently it can be done with practice
Just a quick question: is this book suitable for training a 5 month old puppy that's unlikely to do any gun dog work? I could do with a book to help with teaching long stays, distance control, how to focus etc
Hello Andy, The book was originally written as a series of articles for North West Labrador Rescue site, not specifically for people wonting to work their dogs on shoots, but because I figured that if only people could be encouraged into training their dogs there would be less ending up in rescue. So yes, the book is relevant whether you want to eventually work your dog, or simply have a dog who is a pleasure to live with. And of course you will also be helping the rescue.
Just bought this book of Lab rescue north west site and so looking forward to it coming as I really want to train my dog properly and by the looks of people here this book will help
Yep crazy huh although ebay can be good for some things I have a stair gate off of there for 99p in near new condition need one more and a cage for his quiet safe place but by time we get our new addition I should be set not only with good advise from here but also good set up for him to be happy
Thank You "soonToBe" I picked up your link and ordered one!!!!
I wish I had had this book 15 years ago!!! when I was starting out with a lab puppy, every "Newbie" should have one
This book is not just about "Gundoggery", it's also about training and bonding with the best furry friend you will ever have!! 8) 8) 8)
