For those of you are looking for a humorous Summer read, I recommend you have a look at 'Shakespeare My Butt' by John Donoghue, or as you may be more familiar, our very own Marsupial from the forum!

John may be too modest to blow his own trumpet, but it IS an extremely funny read involving a gorgeous black lab and the meanderings of his highly amusing (and possibly a little eccentric) owner and has had me giggling my head off at the various digressions which populate the pages.

It is available on Amazon and through John's website www.marsupialelvis.com and perfect for those labrador lovers in need of a llighthearted belly laugh!!

John very kindly donated a copy to the Oldies Club for fundraising - it raised £30 in the end John, which is blimmin fantastic, so thank you again :D

I think I will have to treat myself to a copy too :) I've been very good and not read the auctioned copy

:D

Just looked at the website, it looks brill, my holiday in 2 weeks will it come in time or is your book on sale at any well known bookshops John?

Think I am going to enjoy it, reminds me of some acts I have seen at the comedy club, Daniel Kitson, though he had a routine it didn't come across that way he was on stage for over 2 hours just talking.

By the way John I'm married to an ex rockape !!!!!

Thanks for all your kind comments!!

I've been really delighted by the support of everyone at Labrador forums :D

I'll be updating the site soon...so if anyone wants to PM me with the bits that made them laugh, I'd be really pleased and I'll try and put them up as extracts on my site.

...and Brinnsmum... I know the book is on the recommended favourites section in Borders and most Waterstones in the North East / Yorkshire, but not sure if they are in the shops further afield.

They will certainly be able to order it for you at the very least, or Amazon have it in stock...or if you have PayPal, you can order (a signed copy) direct from my site.

Your ex Rockape will hopefully like the military humour ...but because he is an ex Rockape, you might have to read it to him

Just a joke... as an ex Rockape, he's probably bigger than me! 8O

..and Anglea...delighted the book raised some funds for such a good cause! What did they think of the little dedication inside?

I must say that I am not a great lover of non-fiction but I have just finished this book and I LOVED it!! Real laugh out loud stuff, I am sure John and I must about the same age as I could really relate to the bits where he write about his childhood, except John I am a Protestant and to us the Catholics got all the good stuff  You MUST read this book! (and of course there is lots about Barney)

Shelia...it was sent first class post today :D

...but Lorna...did you go camping? I rest my case!!

Vdizzy....glad the OH is recovering!

..and thanks for all the comments...it really is appreciated :D ...don't forget to PM me the bits you think should be on my site as extracts

...and in case anyone was confused by the exchange between Brinnsmum and myself...

...a rockape is military slang from someone from the RAF Regiment, whilst the pong refers to a Pongo - slang for a soldier - based on the old adage any where the army goes, the pong goes 8O

The military have some great expressions for things - one of my favourites , as those of you who have read the book will know, is why an ex wife is called a hurricane - :?

Now don't you lot go spoiling it for us who haven't read it yet. I gratiously received my signed copy from John weeks ago but am avidly trying to finish a series of 5 books (each one about 950 pages) and I'm halfway through book 4....as I've said to John, am taking his 'belly chuckling' novel to Spain with me in 4 weeks, and plan to gobble it up by the pool! Can't wait. Extracts on your site John are hilarious!
