I was recently bought dvd's for my birthday. They are called the Drakeshead Way. The first dvd does through the process of selecting a pup and training at an early age. The second dvd goes through the more advance stages of Gundog work.
Although I use a number of different methods to train my labs, for anyone starting out these would be an excellent reference tool, and even those in the know might find something new.

The Drakeshead Kennel is probably the most famous kennel in the Uk for gundogs. it is run by John and Sandra Halstead.

Ian – completely agree with you regarding these DVD’s. I posted this a while back ……

….. both videos give a real insight into the elements of gundog training and show what a nice down to earth guy John Halstead Snr is. It’s also comforting to see that even the great man can lose control of his dog, its interesting to see how he deals with it – most of the time very calmly. He explains the importance of timing your commands to when the dog is concentrating and is ready to respond, as he says when the dog isn’t paying attention, “phones off ooook” (my poor attempt at writing in a Lancashire accent).

The Edward Martin DVD is the "Retriever Training Master Class" DVD here:- http://www.turnerrichards.co.uk/acatalog/Gundog_Training_DVD_s.html

There are bits of it which are really not my way, but other parts are really good. On the whole well worth the money in my opinion. But of course, like just about all the DVD's, strong in some areas, less strong in others so adding this one to your library could fill in gaps in another.

Regards, John
