I'm reading and enjoying this book at the moment having picked it up for £3.99 from the book chart stand at Morrisons. It is David's story of his time in Sangin, Afghanistan with his explosives search dog Treo - a Lab x Spaniel. The bond between the two of them is immense and both are fiercely protective of the other. Because Treo, 'the black dog' is so good at his job he becomes a target for the Taliban so him and Dave are at even more risk as they lead patrols through enemy territory facing IEDs and suicide bombers.

I know from the photos in the book that they come home together safely - otherwise I wouldn't have started reading it.

I finished and enjoyed this book, even though there were a couple of very sad bits. It was very "edge of the seat" stuff and hard to put down at times because I really needed to know the outcome of that particular exercise. At times it is very graphic in its descriptions and gives a soldier's perspective of the war in Afghanistan.

I am full of admiration for both Dave and Treo - both put their life on the line for the other. I hope that both enjoy a long and happy retirement together.
