Good evening all. I was just wondering if any has a puppy from a litter 3 years ago from Peter Smith. The stud of the litter was Craighorn Bracken. I would just like to see how the litter has turned out as I have one of the bitches from that litter 3 years ago.
If you see this Scot... you probably need enter more information..his question was...he has a pup sired by Craighorn bracken, 3 years ago..wondered if any might have pups or relatives from same litter..
Peter Smith was given as the breeder... good luck
Very strange and i only came across this forum by pure accodent, but I have craighorn brackens great grandchild he is 9 weeks old and acctually looks very similar to his ancestor......beautiful colour
Just came across this thread while looking up my boy's ancestors. He's Bracken great-great-grandson! He looks a lot like him. Same eyes and strips of white on his shoulders! Also very similar colour
I owned the son of Craighorn Bracken and Finlater Holly - a beautiful fox red - Hornhickhill Teal sadly he passed away last year aged 14 years. He was beautiful, gentle and loyal rather timid but adored by all who met him.
Bracken was a very well used stud dog, and not without reason. I always thought his Championship win was probably the most emphatic in recent years. Really, after the first day it was only his to lose! A truly great game finding dog. Below is my Amy, a Bracken great grand daughter, will be 12 in a few days, very grey, and still working.
John, your Amy is my puppy's great grandmother (I think if I'm ready the family tree correctly!)
Her name is Beau (Princess Clarabel Cocoa) she's almost 10 weeks old and gorgeous
No, Amy is her great great aunt twice removed, (from Craighorn Bracken.) But my old Anna is her great great great aunt, (from Baildonian Baron of Craighorn who was Anna's sire)
The bitch side is solid working lines, but the dog side is all show. and if you go back far enough on the dog side, you will find 9 generation back the Morningtown Stormette, the litter sister of the dam of my Beth, and 14 generations back you will find Sandylands Tandy, the grandsire of my first Labrador Mandy
Hi, my yellow lab magic is a descendant of Craighorn Bracken. After commenting on a similar looking lab on Instagram, turned out they were too. Since then I’ve found at least 8 other labs who are great or great great descendants too. Some are yellow, some are fox red but all seem to share a broad head, big ears and a pink nose. I came across this forum by accident but it seems there are many many more 🙂 apparently he was “the most influential yellow lab sire of modern history” xx
Bracken was a lovely worker, and very well used at stud. In total he sired 1041 puppies. his sire was Aughacasla Sam of Drakeshead who had the reputation of passing his working genes on, to the extent that he sired even more pups 1963 to be exact. To my knowledge Sam was the most prolific stud, certainly on the working side! On the show side I'm not so sure, but I'd guess Sandylands Mark would be up there somewhere. Mark's records are rather obscure, listing just 135 pups from 127 litters. As this is only just over 1 pup per litter it's obviously incorrect.
