Default Henry at 6 (and a bit) Months

Hello folks and welcome to the next instalment of 'Henry - SuperPup'

He's coming on well. Growing nicely, already about as tall as Hollie, with a bit to go yet. He's still on 3 meals a day (130gms) only he is now on half puppy food and half adult food. He will be on all adult food when his bag of puppy food is done.

He is very active, still long and slim, (sometimes I think I have an overgrown whippet). He loves to run in the fields now the corn has been combined and chase the crows, although he wasn't too sure about the large bails of straw that suddenly appeared.

His adult teeth are growing OK and in perfect condition, I check them regularly because of his overshot jaw.
The only chewing he's done is to an old garden bench outside and only his chew toys inside. He is left alone for short periods (with Hollie) quite regularly and there has been no damage at all - yet.

Behaviour is generally very good, recall is good, lead walking is good but he still thinks everyone he meets is his long lost best buddy.
When the door bell rings he has to be there first and he knows the sound of the Post van coming down the lane.
Henry and Hollie get on really well, run together, eat together, sleep together but Hollie will not have rough playing, she tells him off. Where at first Hollie wasn't too keen on Henry they are now good friends.

Now for some pics from this morning, unfortunately mainly bum shots of Henry ....

Waiting for breakies...

In the field with Autie Holl...

Well camouflaged...

On the way home for dinner...

Henry has still a lot of puppy in him yet and still has some growing (up and out) to do.
He has a good strong deep bark, he makes me and Hollie jump.
His coat is going darker, I think he will be a dark yellow by 12 months but not red like his sire (not that it matters).

Touch wood but I've been lucky with Henry, (going off past experience), he has not been the trouble I expected from a Lab pup.

PS: To John - he is not adverse to picking up dead birds or live ones or any animal. He definitely has good gundog behaviour/breeding in him.

Great, and every offering should be received as the best present ever.

Glad to hear Henry and Hollie are now good friends. As I said before, both Anna was not keen on Amy, then Amy and Chloe initially, but by and large, Labradors cant "Not like" for long. Their brain does not work that way.

Best, John

He looks fabulous. He’s got a huge amount of growing to do, I suspect. Freddie is 13 months and still looks like a puppy compared to my adult girls. The only thing that looks fully grown are his furry plums!

Can I ask, did you know about his jaw when you got him or has it developed as he’s got older? Pops is 5 months now and all her adult teeth are through apart from the big molars at the very back. The issue we have is she’s got a fragment of puppy canine behind an adult canine that hasn’t come out. I’m giving her silica 30c in the hope it comes out naturally. It’s not in a place where chewing in a bone would make it any easier to fall out.

He looks a fab chap, I’m loving these yellows <3

Sorry to hear about Pops, hope it sorts itself.

Henry's jaw was picked up at 6 weeks old. It's not obviously overshot, you can only really tell when you look. He's slightly goofy.

I was given a choice, to wait for another litter or get a discount. He can't be bred from or shown and as I had no intention of doing either and I had already chosen him my Yorkshireness took the discount.

Well, he’s obviously fallen on his paws with you. There were a couple of pups in Lulus litter and in the litter out of her mothers daughter. Both were spayed and not bred from again. Sadly Lulus Mum later died. I had no intention of breeding Lulu but I could have shown her as her jaw turned out fine.

Pops puppy canine should drop out, if not a trip to the vets will be in order. It’s not affecting the adult canine but just not pretty at the moment.

As I guess you know Nicola, as a puppy develops the root of the puppy tooth atrophies, until there is nothing holding it in. The canines are normally the last to drop, but that usually would be in the 6 to 8 month period. I've known them to hang on until around a year old, but at 13 months a little concern starts to creep in. Try giving it a gentle wiggle to see if it's loose. If it is then great, it will soon drop. If it's not loose then OK, it might still drop later, and a little wiggle from time to time might help it. But just very occasionally the root does not atrophy and veterinary help could be needed.

Best, John

Oops, sorry, it's Pops who's 5 months old. All the time in the world yet. My excuse is I've not got my new glasses yet!
