CHARLIE BROWN 7.10.05 - 5.11.15
My gorgeous big brown bear passed away in my arms on Thursday. He knew I didn't want to make that awful decision to let him go, so in true Charlie style, he made it himself.
He was a special boy, right from the start, coming to us at only 6 weeks old, having only eaten weetabix and living in a shed
At only 6 months old he was diagnosed with HD and ED and we were told without surgery he wouldn't reach 2. Of course we went ahead - he deserved every chance and well worth the £35,000 he's cost over the years (thank you M&S insurance).
We joined Labrador Forums and met so many wonderful new friends and Charlie gained so many followers through all his ops, and gave hope to many more labs facing similar surgery. He became the face of 'Labrador Health', a site set up to encourage and educate puppy buyers to buy from reputable breeders who health test before breeding, instead of the back yard breeder we got Charlie from.
I would like to thank everyone for their kind messages yesterday, and for not going public until we could speak to our eldest son who flew back from China yesterday. Sorry some of the replies were just 'thank you'. I'm sure you understand what a difficult day it was.
And a very special thanks to my wonderful friend Bernie for letting you all know and for her wonderful support - love you B x
So, night, night my wonderful, gentle bear, who was the gentlest dog you could meet, even through pain and discomfort.
Sleep tight, knowing just how much you were loved by so many people.
Miss you so much xx
Wendy, Charlie and Dudley xx
