Default what food would you suggest...dry or a combination and brand

Hi we currently feed our 8 month old boy on a combination of pedigree biscuits and pedigree wet food. But being in a better financial poistion we are looking to move to a better brand ...but unsure as to if we should do a complete dry food or a mix of dry and wet food.

What brands would you suggest ...tried burns when he was younger but he lost weight on it.
His poos seem mostly fairly solid ( a few runny ones) but output is like 5 large poos a day.also he looks good on pedigree but i am very aware its not one of the best on the market.

More money does not necessarily mean better food.

It all depends on what you are looking for, plus your dog may decide he hates it!! just typical of our babies.

I use Peter Masters, the breeder I got my Rosie from uses that, also the breeder of the dog I mated Rosie with. And another local breeder uses it too. (all lab breeders). Rosie has a lovely silky coat and she is very healthy. SO I can vouch for it. It is not the most expensive brand in the market.

I know others would suggest James Wellbeloved, quite an expensive one but easily available everywhere...

It is just a matter of opinions and tastes and noses

Lu

I feed CJ on Wagg Worker (vat free) and Lidls own brand tinned meat, he does well on it, poos always firm enough, no runny ones, but he has an asbestos stomach, doesn`t seem to matter what he eats he doesn`t get runny poos

2/3 times a week I also give him a bone or raw chicken (with bone), this helps firm the poos a bit more and so empty the anal glands on its way out, its also good for his teeth of course

Personally I don`t think the brand matters so much as long as the food suits your dog and it likes it, CJ is a walking dustbin, I havn`t found anything yet nthat he won`t eat

5 poops a day 8O hahaha sounds liek a lot of pooping, jake does 2 a day but then again they`re big logs so maybe he just stores it up for longer

i feed him skinners duck and rice dried food, don`t see any point in feeding a wet food when they get a complete dry food personally. he does really well on skinners and like has been said before more money doesn`t equal better food - best to look at the ingredients to find the best for you. i think i only pay 18.50 for a 15kg bag of jake`s food but it`s really good and it`s hypoallergenic so works well for us (i`m sure it`s VAT free also like the wagg is)

lol leah this are 5 massive poos lol.....thats what made me wonder about changing it seemed a lot of output ol. I realize cost doesnt make food better but it just ment i could look at different brands rather than the price lol.

I feed Arden Grange Lamb and rice, it is a quite high quality food but you can pick it up off the Internet for about 25 a bag which will last my bitch a good 6/7 weeks. She is fed 150g twice a day (300g total) and a bag is 15kg.

i think i used pedigree once with my springer and woke up the next morning to the 'pedigree minefield' we had to tip toe our way through the hall to get to the toilet as there was just poops everywhere ops: swore i`d never touch it again after that. i have heard that due to the poor quality of the food a lot of it just comes right back out from the other end hence why they need fed more of it than some of the other foods - whether that`s true or not i have no idea.

skinners is one i`d defo recommend at least having a look into. if you go on their website you can email them with some info about your dog and they`ll be able to recommend which of their feeds would possibly suit best and send you some samples
