This is pretty much "old news" to a lot of people that have multiple working dogs.

I still don't think most of you are quite understanding that all you are buying is a BRAND that is being sold to you by good marketing.

All you need to do is take a detailed list of the ingredients of the brand of food you buy and give it to the same company that is already producing the food you are buying and get them to bag it up for you in a bag with ROVER on it and you will be feeding exactly the same food to your dog for maybe half the price!

That's not to say all food as there are a few (you can probably count them on one hand) who do not use this one company.

At the end of the day, I'm not really bothered where my dog food is made as long as it's good quality, agrees with my dog and I am happy with the price.

I could quite easily feed the cheapest, crappest thing available but I choose not to. All foods will have to be made in a factory, anyone running a business is in it for the money but that's doesn't mean that they haven't been working hard for years to get it up and running.

I bought my dog crate from Transk9, another 'family business' who worked hard for years before the business took off and still do.

Money makes the world go round after all

It's long been my thought that the dog food business is the biggest con trick in existence. Just about all contain additives which are widely believed to be carcinogenic. BHT and BHA are used to prevent food going rancid. Yes if the dog food manufacturer puts it in they have to declare it on the list, but if the meat wholesaler puts it in then there is NO compulsion. And as most pet food manufacturers get their meet from the same few wholesalers all are as bad as each other. It's also widely thought that dear is good. Yes, it is good. . . . . . for the manufacturers.

It wouldn't be viable for small producers to have their own manufacturing plant so it makes sense for a big factory to do the mixing, cooking and packing for smaller places. I don't have a problem with that as long as you actually get what it says on the label.

There aren't many - if any, 70/30 or 80/20 foods that are as good value as Millies Wolfheart, looking at the 50/50 grain free foods (add your own label type not MWH) with almost identical ingredients lists. The cheaper ones often contain beet pulp which is a cheap filler, then you have to feed greater quantities and get more poo, so they aren't such good value in the long term.
