There is a lot of debate over the kennel cough vaccine as it is a nasal application which dogs really don't like. There is also some question over its effectiveness as it only covers limited strains of KC. A lot of kennels won't accept dogs unless they are vaccinated and vets like to push it but KC isn't particularly dangerous for a healthy dog, it is only like us having a bad cold.
More socialisation opportunities are train and bus stations, going for a ride on the bus/train. Pet shops and camping shops usually allow dogs in so you could also visit those.
