I've no idea re the coat thing, I did a bundle of genetic tests with a Laboratory, which Zasa was clear for all of, including Narcolepsy, obesity gene, various forms of myopathy, and a whole host more, but the main five she was clear for as well. The results were about 3 pages long, most I'm sure, will have nothing to do with Labradors.
I show my boy, Freddie, even though he was only bought as a companion. He’s done very well, 3 times been best junior in breed and once junior GP3. He’s showing great promise in gundoggery and we’re hopefully starting training after the summer. Trouble is it’s a 200 mile round trip each time, which is a bummer. He’s now coming up to 14 months and an utter monster at times but when he’s good he’s a delight to be around.

Pops was bought to show. When Freddie’s breeder realised I was showing him she said she’d have picked a different puppy for me. This time she picked, I knew which one she’d picked for me (red collar) but when I went to pick she’d removed all the identifying collars (some by accident, some be design). I picked the puppy she’d earmarked for me. Pops has only done one show but got best baby in breed first time out. Her grandfather was a French dual champion so in theory, she should have working ability in her genes. One of her siblings had gone to an Italian breeder with a view to making her up into an Italian dual champion. I’m concentrating on the show side for the time being but to get a French show champion title she’ll also have to compete in field trials too.

The coat thing is all very hush hush in the UK. There are plenty of lines that carry it and are affected but it’s swept under the carpet. Pops grandfather was from a well known British kennel who were, apparently, showing “fluffy” dogs in the 80s and 90s.

Exciting times for us both.

Very!

I've never heard anything about the coat, the only issue I've had with coat is that not everyone liked Tau's pale colour, and her coat is quite thin in comparison to some coats, although it's never been an issue and we do get some pretty horrible weather where I live. Zasa's coat is denser, but still sparse compared to some of the show Labradors, but again, never had an issue, she's worked all day without ever showing any signs of being cold, even when wet through all day.
