Socialising puppy

Hello all, I'm sure all you experienced dog owners can help.
I would like to know, obviously when picking a puppy up at 8weeks old, and can't take it out till after second jab. Any ideas where could take it for socialisation? I mean where are they allowed to go if carried? Don't know if allowed in supermarkets. Could you give me some ideas please as it's crucial for a puppy to be well socialised. Thanx my lovely forum ;)

Have a peek at this

The first day we brought Phoebe home, just under 8 weeks, she fell in the local river 8O

I wouldn't recommend this obviously, but it didn't do her any harm

I would bring her everywhere where you're planning to bring her as an adult and more... You should be fine if you're carrying her, just watch out for the 'no dogs' signs or places where there is food. We took Cooper a couple of times to our local cafe where dogs are very welcomed, but always mindfully of other customers who may not be interested in puppy socialisation!

The only thing I haven't done yet is take him on the train, which I know is getting a bit late and don't know if we'll ever need to, but I feel like I should do it just to tick that box!

I would take her to as many places as possible as quickly as possible as they grow up really quickly and it won't be long til she's really heavy to carry!

You can take a pup most places, as long as they don't have food in  .

So, into town, on the bus/train, to the station, outside schools, outside shops, on park benches, in the car (do LOTS of that, as the quicker they get used to that the better), to the pub, round to friends/relatives, etc, etc.

I tend to just bung my pups in the car wherever I'm going, especially if I'm going to pick up or drop off anyone, and just take them out for a quick look round once I'm there. 8)

I once read a list of good socialisation which was 12 of 12 (12 examples of each of 12 categories) eg...
introduce them to 12 different types of people (skin colours, ages, uniforms, disabilities)
walk on 12 surfaces (grass, gravel, wood, carpet, metal, leaves)
feed in 12 different places
see/hear 12 different forms of transport (bus, train, car, bike, lorry, dustbin lorry, mobility scooter, motorbike)
12 different noises (doorbell, vacuum cleaner, hair dryer, fireworks, loud music, washing machine, telephone)
12 public places (pet shop, bus station, school, high street)
12 other dogs/other animals

I can't remember them all but you get the picture - basically as many different experiences as possible.

I took Coco as a spectator at puppy classes for a couple of weeks before we started. She stayed on my knee and all the other pups were vaccinated so she was safe enough. I also took her to the vets on a weekly basis to have her weighed and to have a few good experiences there (not just for injections). The receptionist was happy to weigh her and give her a treat.

Pets at home is always a good place for puppies and they are more than used to mopping up little accidents in there!

I forgot to mention... road signs, wheelchairs, walking sticks, paper boy bags, hi-vis vests, flapping plastic bags, fizzy bottles being opened, umbrellas - all very scary things for a dog who has never seen/heard them before! (or a wuss who likes to pretend that they are very scary things)

I wish I had know all that when we first got Ben Pam, that's really useful. He has barked at different coloured people before
