Labrador brings deadly snake home in Melbourne, Australia
MELBOURNE (Australia) - OWNERS of black labrador Bronson were stunned when the dog arrived home with a deadly snake wrapped around his nose.
According to the story in the Herald Sun newspaper, the snake coiled around Bronson's snout and locking his jaws closed, was believed to be a deadly copperhead.
'He's normally an excellent duck dog but he'll pick up absolutely anything and return it to us, hanging on to it until we say 'give',' explained Bronson's owner, Deborah Allen. 'My husband Peter didn't know he'd lost his mobile phone out in a paddock recently until Bronson returned with it in his mouth.'
Bronson was lucky his owners were at home on their property at Yarragon, outside Melbourne in the Australian state of Victoria, when he got home. As the couple tried to decide what to do about the situation, Mrs Allen took a photo of the unusual sight.
'But he had a real forlorn look on his face like he was saying 'Hurry up and take this thing',' Ms Allen said.
Once his owners had captured the snake in a hessian bag, Bronson was rushed to the West Gippsland Veterinary Centre where a coagulation blood test confirmed Bronson had copped a bite. Four days in hospital followed on a drip, but Bronson is now happily at home.
