This morning (Friday) I went to have a look at a local Gunroom.
Unfortunately my Certificate hasn't arrived yet so it was a case of just 'browsing' but I was there about an hour and had a good chat with the owner who was very helpful.
I will definitely be using this gunroom when my Certificate arrives.
I am rather interested in a left-handed Bettinsoli Sporter (new). I handled a right-handed one and quite liked it. I've read all I can find on t'internet and it appears to have a good reputation.
Another option is the Browning 525 which is also a fine gun but there is quite a price difference between the two.
Does anyone here have an opinion on Bettinsoli?

I think most of the Italians guns in the Bettensoli price range seem to be getting good write ups, I know a while back Rizzinis had a bit of a reputation (there's more than one Rizzini making guns as well!!).
I've always been a Browning fan, the 325, which has been replaced by the 525, was a really well made gun, no doubt the 525 is as well.
My personal preference would be to have a look round for a good used 325.
Is it The Gunroom at Barthope you've been to? You can have a look at York Guns stock on line as well.

Trouble of course is that if you are looking for a left handed gun then the possibilities second hand are going to be rather limited.
The daughter of one of our guns has a problem because she is right handed but left master eye. Her sister is ok because she is also right handed but has a right master eye.
Regards, John

Thanks Andrew.
It was the Gunroom at Wykeham. Davey and son.
I've looked at Barthorpe, York and Northallerton on the web and this one at Wykeham is as good price-wise for new guns but doesn't have many second-hand.
I was quite taken by Bettinsoli and I'd prefer a new gun for my first one.
Wykeham is ony a few miles from where I live and is easier to get to than the others. I want to become a 'regular' then I can get some good deals.
I also saw a very nice left-handed semi-auto there.

Regards, John | That's one reason I was thinking of buying new.

If you like the gun, and it feels right, then give it a go.

I would avoid a semi auto for you're first gun Bob
Bettinsoli are renowned for reliability and are always solid. Browning are very nice but the 525's are very heavy for me. in my opinion
you always have the route of saving up for a good second hand berretta?
- Although i swear by my s/b/s victor sarsquetta
But the most important thing in a gun is that it fits you whilst you shoot it... nothing worse than a blue shoulder after shooting the crows

| The semi-auto would be for later Lewis, a second gun. My first gun will definitely be a 12g o/u 30".
Maybe a side-by-side some time in the future.
