Hi All
Im a wee bit concerned about my molly moo, we have been at the vets this week as she has devolped a cough whenever she moves/gets exicted, she lost interest in walks too, has been on a very strict diet-almost army rations and has still put on weight after initially losing it,all this has been over a few weeks, she has had kennel cough 3 times in 9months too and had issues after her spayed with infections
So vets took blood, tested some there and sent some away for a thyroid test, also said possible longterm longworm infection so started her on treatment for that whilst awaiting results, results are now in and im really confused, white blood cells high but no sign of bacterial infection, heart,liver,kidneys all normal, but she does have a high breathing rate, low thryoid hormone level but her autoimmune thryoiditis levels are normal which rules out an underactive thryoid but doesnt explain why her thryoid levels are low. also doesnt explain lung issues and coughing, got to do poo sample for them to check for lungworm now, if that negitive they are talking about xraying her chest.
Sorry its long but does anyone have any idea??

Poor Molly, you must be so worried. I hope the vet finds out what is wrong quickly and that Molly is soon on the mend.

Sorry to hear that molly is no well...my old dog buster had the same thing, he was a bit of a tub-mister and it was caused by an enlarged heart...whenever he got excited or moved faster than slow he would almost hack!

Keep and posted - thinking of you.

This isn't meant to scare you, but a stupid vet mis-diagnosed one of my Labs as having lungworm last year - he actually had sub-acute pneumonia and died two weeks later as a result.

You say that the blood tests came back with a high white cell count ... this is good as it shows that Molly's immune system is working. If you get any other bloods done and they come back as a lack of white blood cells (leucopenia) this is bad, as it indicates that the immune system is in major trauma. If leucopenia is combined with anaemia and thrombocytopneia, this indicates a critically ill animal that must receive immediate, emergency, life-saving veterinary care.

My advice to you is that if she suddenly goes down hill (V&D, extremely lethargic, pale gums) don't waste any time in getting her to the vet.

Maybe tell the vet about my Lab's mis-diagnosis too. As I said, this is not meant to scare you, but rather it is said than not, as I would hate for the same thing to happen to another dog and me not to have said anything.

Sending Molly lots of {{{{{{{ be well }}}}}}}
