Sorry... YET another question regarding the GT
Right, I'm really not risking bringing my current car down to the GT..
Sinse i live in the North of Scotland, and its about hmm, a 9 hour drive, then i think its safer to get the train.... As my car is a heap, and i can't even trust it to get a few miles into the city, I REALLY don't wanna risk going 9 hours to find me being stranded on a motorway half way there.. lol
I HOPE my OH will be able to bring me, but he works in the I.T/Internet Servers section of the bank and so works long hours and most days. So not sure if he will get the Fri-Sun off, but i do hope so...!
Anyway, i need a back-up plan if he cannot make it to the GT, so i was thinking the train.
I know Leo would be fine with the long journey, as i take him on the train all the time. He's been on long train journeys in the past too and is perfectly fine with them, just mainly sleeps so i'm not worried about him.
My main question is..... I have absolutely No idea where the GT is.. Well, yes i know the name of the location etc, but sinse i'v never been to those parts before i don't have a clue how to actually get there.
Could anyone tell me, if i were to get the train, which station would/should i get off at? Would i need a bus from the station or is it only a walk from there?
Just so i have everything covered incase i do need to get the train...
It's a long distance to travel, but i REALLY want to come to the GT this year and so does Leo
I guess i'll need to find accomidation, as there is no way i'm hiking a tent down there on a train aswell. lol!
But i'll sort accomidation out nearer the time i guess.
Any help on this would really be appreciated! Thanks xx
ohhh Jill i wish i had known your going on the train cassie and i might have been able to make the train journey with you...i dont drive so train would be our only option...
Hi Elle, if i do get the train, you are very welcome to come with us.
I would have invited you in my OH's car if he manages to come, but he drives a 205 and fitting 2 dogs and 3 adults in there....welll, impossible! lol
I have a 205 aswell (A much older heap of crap though), and even when its just Leo and me in there, its a squeeze. lol
Would be lovely to have some company on the train if I go with that option, Leo would enjoy it too.. Plus, it would mean if we got lost, we'd get lost together. lol
very true.. well you can let me know...that is the reason im not going dont fancy that long jouney on my own with cassie...on a practical note im sure on on of the posts from last years gt someone managed to stay at the travel lodge and they allowed the dogs aswell...so if ur oh is going it would be good for you
We stayed in a Travel Lodge last year and was great
Not too far away (although not walking distance) They will allow 2 dogs per room for only and extra £10 per dog per stay Well worth the money in our opinion as the room was covered in dog hair - all the staff accomodated us in anyway they could - the dogs got a great night's sleep and Bailey got to rest in the nice cool bath
Hmmmm.....wouldn't the train go to Birmingham New Street then catch another to Sutton Coldfield? Check out www.thetrainline.co.uk (I think its that) to see. You can book and check out the prices too.
I was thinking Birmingham New Street or Birmingham International. You may also be able to get through to Coventry, which would not be all that far.
I don't really know about buses from the station, or even whether you would be allowed to take dogs on them unless they were guide dogs. Might make a cab your best option. Why not contact the campsite and ask how they are served by public transport etc.
Are there any cheap flights from where you live to either Birmingham or East Midlands? Sometimes the likes of Ryanair, BMI Baby or Easyjet can be very cheap, though no frills at all, and I don't know their policy on carrying animals. They probably would if you could get hold of an approved travel crate.
One other possibility is to price up hiring a car locally when you arrive.
If you were able to make it to a station or airport I could come and pick you up, thats assuming you`ll be travelling down on the friday and staying over at a hotel locally, posibility the site is booked up now anyway for camping, think its been taken over by LF
Mary, thats so kind of you. Thanks!
It would be really appreciated if i get the train and you could do that!
The train takes about 7 hours or so, but i'd get a train which has at least 1 stop along the way (So during changing trains, i could let Leo get a pee etc)
On the Friday, i'd probably get an early morning train at around 7/8am, meaning i should arrive on Friday afternoon around 3 or 4pm... Would that be okay?
It will be a long and expensive journey but i'm sure it will be worth it!
Yep that should work out well Jill, I`m planning on being at the camp site for around 1pm, so I can have myself set up and then come fetch you and Leo and either bring you to the camp site or to your hotel whichever you prefer, last year there was a pre GT BBQ, not sure if Julie`s planning another this year
