Judges Tim Woodgate-Jones, Shelia Neary, David Stevens and Trich Watson
This was a 14 dog driven stake at the Temple shoot at Filliegh, all dogs in the first drive, I was running no 10 sat in the drive on the right so when the drive was over back to the dog steward and then sent to to the left, a few blinds then my first retrieve was a died into a wide hedge with a ditch at the bottom, my dog went in where sent, hunted to the right popped out was sent to the left and came out with the bird, this was the last bird in that area so we trudged to the top of a large hill (Nice View), a dog from the right was hunting at the bottom of the hill be another wide hedge, it went into the cover and returned, now for my side my partner was sent first to the same area as the previous dog, entered the hedge and came out with a bird, I was then sent being told that the bird bas more to the right and a few feet out from the hedge, he went down to the hedge in one cast stopped on the whistles took the right cast picked a a good return.
We had at that point lost three dogs one swap, one out of control and one with a technical eye wipe.
Second drive had birds being dropped into a grass field but some across a small river, I was not in the drive but the spare dogs were in the middle of the line, during the drive we had two birds dropped in the river just behind us, there was a lot of flapping as they drifted past to be collected by a picker up down stream.
When I went in for my second round I was sent for a pheasant in a dip a few metres from the river, Grouse thought he was being sent back for one of the river birds he went out like the clatters however he did stop on the whistle just past the bird and a quick hunt picked the bird.
A few retrieves were across the river but by the time all the birds were picked and the second round was over and four dogs had a one retrieve third round. it was lunch time, all the guns, judges and helpers went to the pub so we twiddled our fingers for 90 minutes, at this point we had ten dogs.
Afternoon I was in the next drive on the right, this was in a heavily wooded valley at the start the guns were snap shooting as the birds flew across the valley but the beaters pulled out of the beat went to the end and then pushed the birds back and the birds now flew down the valley, a large **** pheasant was shot landed beside my dog and was immediately off closely followed by my dog, was I happy no but I suspect that not many dogs would have sat but to make matters worse the dog next to me owned by annie waste also started to go, she shouted to the dog which stopped but to late, (I have to say that my dog took the runner for at least 100 meres up the bank and into the field at the top.
The remaining dogs were then sent for birds through a gateway another dog went out swapping (The handler did not hear the judge say he had picked.
The remaining dogs were sent for birds in the wood out in the field and after seven retrieved by the top two dogs the trial was over at 5 p.m.

I was happy with my dogs work disappointed with the run in and sorry for Annie Wales but hey ho off again next Saturday.
I have to say the dog did a great job, the bird came crashing through the trees with the legs going like pistons before it hit the ground, as it started up the hill, my dog went taking the bird over the top of the valley and was out of sight for about a minute, just long enough for me to think about him not picking so going out first dog down failure as well as running in, but it was a great picking up retrieve.
Picking up today the dog has had a couple of Max Bygraves moments "I want to tell you a little story" so hope deamons are put to rest for the next
