Hi All,
As i have posted in a previous post my little labby girl may be in whelp i have bred from my boxers in the past however i was unlucky and they required c section for delivery of there litters. I have about 6 books on breeding and whelping bitches that I am reading again to refresh my memory. the question i wanted to ask from experienced breeders is what essentiale equipment should I have on hand. I have seen some put together kits ranging from £20 upto £60 including heat pad. I want tomake sure if she is in whelp i have all the neccesary items ready.
Thanks
Rich

not quite sure why I have only just spotted this post! but I have replied in another message what I consider to be "my" essentials! which I think you have already seen!
Our whelping box we made ourselves. but we made it a little bit too small for my liking. If I have another litter again I would make a bigger box. So that it is slightly higher to keep the puppies in. (where theres a will theres a way! those pups will escape!)
We used wood that had a wipeable surface. I know some breeders prefer the cardboard throw away whelping boxes. Or ones that they are going to burn afterwards (ie cheap wood that does its job but thrown/skipped after its used).

Don't bother with kits
Lots of cut up towels
Small box with hot water bottle which is well covered with towels
Forceps or similar for stemming blood loss from umbilical cords that may have been bitten too short
Disposable gloves
Can't think of anymore at the moment
