I asked two pet stores regarding Nature Diet but was told by both that they've had problems getting the puppy one for months.

One store told me after several complaints regarding stock, the closest they could find is this brand-- Nature's Menu.

I was wondering if anyone has fed their labs this brand or have any opinions in any way. It seems pretty good and I'm tempted to try it hehe but of course, I can't do anything without asking you guys!!!!!

I have tried Nature's menu (as the shops for some reason appear to try and push it as a quality alternative) unfortunately, I have found it not as good (don't get me wrong, the dogs like it, but my two like ANYTHING) - but it is appallingly messy to serve, and the outputs are not as, shall we say, firm Rolling Eyes - it is also more expensive pound for pound that ND

I did manage to get hold of some puppy ND, but the shop owners are right, it is like Gold Dust ATM - the adult feed however, now appears to be back in the local petshops in abundance.

I feed Hally on ND and the pup on tripe / tripe & beef / beef ATM (as instructed by the breeder) and she is thriving on it. Is there a specific reason for feeding the puppy ND? The petshop we were talking to advised feeding Clover on the Chicken ND - but as she thrives on the raw meat have decided to stick with that Very Happy

Is the adult ND bad for puppies? One shop told me the only difference is the puppy one has eggs in it and I can feed her the adult one no problem. The other shop told me I shouldn't feed her the adult but they were pushing the Nature's Menu so grain of salt there.

I have Wendy on Burns at the moment and she is doing fine (although always hungry), but OH wanted to introduce variety and his dad told him feeding wet will stop her from eating grass (ha!), so I thought maybe once a day or once every 2 days, we will add some ND. Unfortunately, as you know, it's like gold dust at the moment.

I do want to feed her raw when she grows up but am a little scared about it at the moment heheh! OH is going to take serious convincing regarding parasites and stuff. He worries about eevverrryythhiinnng.

What do you think about the adult ND? Do you think it'd be a problem? It will not be for every meal, just for variety really and to make OH feel better.

Mmm - Hally has also been fed wet and has never eaten grass (until about two weeks ago when Clover arrived Twisted Evil ) and Clover eats quite a mixed diet and eats grass as well Rolling Eyes (and twigs / trees or anything else she can happen to get her mouth around Rolling Eyes

I don't feed Clover specifically on puppy food - have followed the guide from her breeder. She has fresh meat (usually tripe or beed / tripe based) but I do give her small bite mixer ATM - for dinner she has milk and biscuits or scrambled egg and for her late meal she has rice pudding (usually with a few mini biscuits mixed in) - although have also given her Burns mini bites / tuna and rice when her tummy was a little unsettled and cut out the milk feeds - now back on them and not having any problems at all - I am guessing it was probably a result of the upheaval coming home.

The puppy ND is slightly higher protein than the adult, but other than that, I could see no difference at all - you could always add eggs to the diet.

I am not an expert on feed, but have taken my guideance from someone who is, and there isn't a puppy food in sight - although I do keep Burns mini bites / small bite mixer and use them for training as treats (for both dogs)

To be fair, other than the first week or so with both dogs - I have always fed a varied diet which includes meat / fish / veg / rice / eggs and milk and touch wood, have not encountered any problems.

Thanks Sue!

Since I will not be letting Wendy depend solely on ND adult, I'm thinking it should be fine! I'm just mixing it a little with the Burns. Going to get some tomorrow and mix in a teeeeeeeeeny bit to see how it goes!

If I find she is doing poorly, then will stop of course. Fingers crossed! I'm not holding out hope regarding the grass/soil/twigs/everythingonthefloor though Rolling Eyes

Hi Julia

Thought you might be interested, but my OH has just gone into PAH and they have quite a lot of puppy ND in stock. This is the first time we have seen if there in a long time - and PAH appeared to withdraw all their stock while the supply problems were on - so this could be good news Wink

YAY Sue!!!

Although, we don't have a PAH at Hemel Hempstead Sad Sad I'm going to have to find one closer. Our pet store has declared that they're putting any ND that they have on sale and will no longer carry them. BOO!

I bought a couple of packs of the adult one today. Mixed in a teeeeny bit to her lunch and she licked her bowl for about 20 minutes, she loved it soooo much.
