Morning

Our breeder is providing us with a 2KG bag of Nutro puppy food when we pick our little girl up.

Roughly how long will this last? It's just I need a rough idea how quickly I will need to get in a replacement. I also want to switch her from this to Burns, but I know I have to do it gradually so as not to upset her tummy.

Oh and also can I use this food as part of her treats for training or should I buy separate treats for this and just reduce her daily allowance??

TIA

Tracey x

Hi

I used to get a 2.5kg bag of puppy burns and it used to last about 3 weeks so maybe a 2kg bag will last about 2 weeks maybe ?

But i suppose it depends on how many gramms they eat in a day , perhaps you could work it out if you know how many grammes a day.

Hope this helps .

I used to get a 15kg bag of mini bites and it used to last me ages.

Stick with what the breeder gives you until little one is settled with you as changing too much at once can cause upset tummies due to excitement and anxiety.

When I changed over I did

75% old food - 25% new food for 3 days
50% old food - 50% new food for 3 days
25% old food - 75% new food for 3 days
Then 100% new food
Kept checking Majic's poo's and if they became runny I would hold back for a few days and try again later but fortunately this never happened but just to make you aware.

Also in the beginning I used Majic's food as treats for training and took it out of her daily allowance.

I didn't use seperate treats for Wendy for the first week. Our breeder told us not to-- to just use her usual food as treats if we want to train her.

For the first couple of days home, I had Wendy purely on the breeder's food. She never was too stressed with the move, so we started mixing in tiny amounts of Burns. I also used Burns as the occasional treat. She's about 85-90% on Burns now and it's been over a week and I've still got loads of Purina left.

I've just started to use James Wellbeloved Mini Jacks yesterday for treats, but not the whole piece, I break it down into 2-3 smaller pieces.

All is well for now. No runny poo at all. My only problem is, she is a lot hungrier on Burns because the feeding portions are SO much less compared to Purina. Also, she only pooed only twice a day the last couple of days (as opposed to four!!), which is worrying/surprising.

The thing is Julia, is that Burns has less crap in it, therefore the dog is able to digest and use the majority of the food instead of having to poo out the waste products of the other food....if you catch my drift? If she is hungry on the amount you are giving her then feed her a little more - remember that the feeding guidelines on the bag are exactly that - GUIDELINES - all dogs are different. If Wendy is still hungry then feed her more but make sure you monitor her weight so you don't get into overfeeding mode. Smile

Personally I would be happy with 2 poos a day and not worried at all!!!! Laughing
