I was making the most of having computer access (teenagers busy elsewhere) and had a good read through some of the threads on diet & weight, which started to make me think ----- what is the ideal weight for a 7mth this week old male labrador ????
So i set about trying to weigh my baby this rainy afternoon much to the hysterical laughter of my daughter Laughing first i stood on the bathroom scales (ahhhh & ive not eaten one easter egg) then attempted to pick up Frankie (who was standing in the bath trying to turn the taps on Smile) I stood complete with wriggy dog in arms and realised i had forgotten to switch the scales back on DAMMITT !! on the second attempt after much chasing around i finally weighed him but it wasnt very accurate - 24 Kilos
Does this seem right or is he a little tubby (my eldest daughter was approched by a man in the park last week who said Frankie was fat, daughter replied he was a baby and walked off saying his dog was anorexic !!! )
He has 2 meals a day ( in total about 370grms) of Nutracare + treats of carrot & pear & maybe some stolen human food Mad and 2 walks of about 30 - 40 mins
Is he a little heavy ????

PS because im ignoring him the little so & so has just jumped up against the kitchen sink & attempted to lick the plates clean Mad

Hi

Charlie is 6.5 months and weighs about the same as frankie.

Charlie is quite stocky but I can still feel his ribs without pressing

Charlie is also 22" tall

There is no ideal weight for any age.
Labs come in all shapes and sizes, just like people.
You can't put a set weight on a certain age.
Have a look at your lab, can you see a waist? Feel his body, can you feel his ribs but not see them?
If the answer is yes- you have a healthy dog whos a nice weight for his age.
If you cannot see a clear waist & cannot feel the ribs, or you feel a lot of flab around them, then yes, he's probably a little on the big side.

I agree with what's posted above. There are no ideal weights for the breed. Like everything else, weight depends entirely on the individual.

If your dogs parents are stocky (show type?) chances are he will be too. As for the comment made by someone about your dog being fat, it all comes down to what you are used to seeing. There are so many poorly bred puppy mill type Labs that when someone unknowledgable about the breed sees a proper bred show type or proper bred field type it "just can't be a purebred". Rolling Eyes

As long has he is fit and healthy & you can feel his ribs/waist then he is fine. Don't listen to what strangers say as most of the time they don't have a clue!
