Max is a 4 year old neutered male who weighs 32 - 33kg.

He is fed beta dry food, as it was what the breeder fed him and we never changed it. He has one meal a day morning of beta and vege and pasta at night after we eat. That suits our lifestyle and him.

He is a tall lean dog with a lovely waist on him.

HOWEVER He is an extremly hungry dog obsessed with food (I am ashamed to say he picks the chewing gum off the street/spends all his time out trying to find food) and would go off with anyone if they gave him a biscuit.

My friends and I were talking yesterady about him and came to the conclusion that it must be horrible always wanting more food. There is a human disease called Prader Willie Syndrome (please excuse the spelling) where the person never feels full up. Must be horrible.

I know labradors are greedy but this is ridiculous.

Is there any way of filling him?
Do I have to spend the rest of his life watching his every waking moment spent trying to find food?
Am I being neurotic and putting human emotions on him?

Sorry for the length of this thread..............................

Unfortunately, sounds perfectly normal to me - Hally (3) would gorge herself stupid if she had her way, and I have to say at just over 8 weeks, so would Clover - it didn't take her too long to work out what a food bowl is and where else food might be available from Shocked Confused

(Sorry, not much help Embarassed )

I imagine being a Lab that Max`s bowl is empty almost before it hits the floor? Very Happy

How about trying him with a bone every now and again, or raw chicken wings/thighs, I give CJ lamb shanks periodically, he also has chicken and rib ends, with bones it takes them a lot longer to eat them and I think makes them feel more satisfied than food in a bowl Very Happy

As Sue though Max is being a typical Lab, most of them would eat til they burst given the chance! Laughing

Hi

I dont know if this will help, but my dog trainer/behaviourist has told us on many occassions that dont just give them a bowl of food cos in the wild they spend most of their time hunting/foraging for food. But to hide bits of their food around the garden for them to 'find' so it takes them longer to eat a meal than just being given it in a bowl !
This stimulates the dog aswell as feeding them.
Maybe if Max spent 15 mins finding his food he would feel fuller?

Just an idea !

My lab bens the same, he'd quite happily eat and eat and eat until he was bloated if he could. He also pinches yucky things off the streets to if he see's the opportunity Rolling Eyes

Have you tried giving him a frozen/unfrozen filled kong or something simular? It would give him something to do and hes get some bits of food but has to work for it. normally takes ben ages to get all of his out.

Lovely pic of max BTW Wink
