Hi everyone! Smile
Just a quick question. Might seem a strange, stupid question but I was just wondering if you can give labs fruit and veg as treats. I know you can give them chopped carrots and apples but is there anything you shouldn't give them. Maybe it's me just going a bit too far with the whole 'healthy eating' thing. Embarassed Rolling Eyes

Also. Look at her now. 6.5 months and the same size of my 9 year old daughter! I couldn't believe it when I saw them both cuddling together yesterday. Shocked Smile

Hi, we feed our two lots of fruit and veg with no side effects..... although Lucy is yet to comprehend what to do with a grape or a tomato! Led to much amusement as she chases them across the floor! Laughing

John W will be able to answer you properly on this. Off the top of my head....not good are onions, grapes and raisins. There are more I am sure.

At the moment Doobs is a pineapple and banana fanatic!

Grapes is one thing they shouldn`t have, onions and garlic are a couple more I know off the top of my head, I think garlic is ok in capsule form, but someone who knows more about that then I do will be along to say I`m sure, as with anything they shouldn`t really have Very Happy

My puppy loves banana, apple cores, apricots and grapefruit!

Also heard grapes & raisins shouldn't be given to dogs.

Beware with Pineapple, although its safe, it can have a detrimental effect on their digestion! Shocked Very Happy , it did with a friends GSD anyway, but he`s prone to digestive problems.

There is a very good reason why Doobs has pineapple at the moment. For his little habit. Seems to be working so far Wink (Hope I haven't spoken too soon)

Didnt know about grapes....our two love them...or any other fruit/veg they can get their jaws on... typical labradors..will eat anything...including in Sams case a whole chicken tikka masala with bombay potato with no side effects...about the only thing they wont touch is chocolate and wotsits(which are guarenteed to give jippy tummy, must be the colouring) Must try the pineapple though...got one sitting on the side in the kitchen as I type Smile

Steer clear of Chocolate, Raisins, grapes, onions and Avocado's...these are all toxic to dogs....

Obviously anything in sufficient excess is toxic (even water) however garlic belongs to the same family as onion which MAY cause haemolytic anaemia if eaten (so don't feed onions); garlic is ok in small doses. Please watch your dog carefully, overdosing on garlic could be potentially dangerous. A clove a day for dogs is fine but no more.

I give all my dogs a clove per day, the pups are on half each just now, an excellent flea deterrant, and amazingly none ever suffer from garlic breath (that would be the dogs, not the fleas) Very Happy Wink
