Hey people and labs..

My little guy.. Whom I registered as "Linux" here in the forums but is now officially named "Athlon". Let's just say he's been shy on his food and that made me worry because he had a great appetite the first day he came home with me. So I browsed around dog forums that are local here in my country and found that lots of breeders and owners here have been giving their dogs Virgin Coconut Oil. Proven to be great on people as well as dogs. So I tried it and put some VCO on his food everytime I feed him and he would eat any brand of dog food now. hehe

When I got him he was only 3 weeks old and he was 7 inches tall. Now just 2 weeks later he's 10 inches tall and his coat has became even more shiny. Could this growth be the effect of the Oil or do labs really grow that fast? Any of you guys have negative experiences of VCO on your dogs? All I ever heard about it are positives from reputable breeders here and since VCO is somewhat great for people I decided to use it on my Athlon but then I'd like to know if anybody out there has tried using it on their labs.

bumping this post up...

sorry havent heard of that oil.. but yes pups do grow very fast..lol. it is advisable to feed your pup adult food once he hits 6 months as this slows the bone growth down (most ppl do this but not all i have done this) someone will explaint he reason for this who is more experinced than me....

i feed my labs pilchards twice a week this also improves there coats and makes them silky shiny soft...(although bad breath for a few hours..lol.)

Phew... I thought my lab was abnormal or something since he's grown so fast hehe Thanks for the well appreciated reply. I think it's because too much bone growth can cause problems like hip dysplasia or something in the future not really sure but then I believe you about feeding adult food at 6 months.. About Virgin coconut oil, it's kind of like a cure for all.. According to some vets it boosts the immune system as well as the appetite of any dog. The effects on the coat is much like cod liver oil but instead of fish they get coconut smelling breath. hehe

I feed my lab Eukanuba+rice+Ground Meat+1 tsp VCO.. I think he really likes the smell of coconut since if I put some of the VCO on his front legs he would lick em for hours hehe
