naughty chewing pup

Millie is coming up to 12 weeks now, but she is so naughty indoors. when we go out, we 'puppy proof' the room, but she still manages to find something to destroy, telephone line, my coursework, bills etc. she has plenty of toys to amuse her and there is also sasha our other dog, who will be 3 in feb. they both play and get on but millie still misbehaves when we go out.
i thought she would be ok because of having sasha but she isn't. sasha was a really good pup, so i cant get my head round why millie misbehaves when she has someone to play with??
on the other hand, millie is really good while out on walks and on her lead!!
any ideas to help me??

Oh dear, it sounds like Millie is a lot like my dog. When she was around that age, she started chewing things that were not hers and had a particular preference for electrical leads- very dangerous! We tried everything to stop her including the 'dont chew' sprays, but they did not work. Jet is 7 months now and I can only say that she will grow out of it, the vet explained that as labs are working dogs, they begin to feel the need for things in their mouths- hece more chewing than most puppies. She has the instinct but cant direct it as yet.
My advice would be to shut her into one 'puppy proofed' room whilst you are out.
hope she stops soon.

ps: try rubbing a chilli on things that you dont want her to chew- she'll get a nasty shock when she puts it into her mouth.

i think im just expecting her to be how sasha was as a pup, i know each labrador is different!!!!

We have been dealing with that same problem with our 7 mo. old for the last couple months. We used to leave him in the kitchen when were gone, because we could put up the baby gate and he and his adopted brother Norton (who's 2) had plenty of room. All of his chewing started pretty innocently, he chewed a bit on the corner of the wall, but this was back when he quite a bit younger. then he chewed up 3 sets of wooden blinds. We'd had enough by then, but figured it we just pulled up the blinds when we were gone, we'd be Ok. Then in a span of about week, he had put four holes (one rather large) in the drywall. By then my husband had had enough. Our house is only 8 months old and the puppy was slowing destroying it. We now keep the boys in a big kennel in the garage when we are gone. A kennel, I might add, that they have already figured out how to escape from. As for your pup's chewing, I can only tell you what people have told me, and that's that is it something they will outgrow. We give them numerous toys and plenty to keep them occupied, and Max still gets into trouble. It's just a puppy thing I guess. Hang in there!
