Has anyone fed this? Have just been advised to put Ruby on a 50/50 mix of this and a regular Burns food as she is a very lean girl with a tendency to drop weight. I had succeeded in getting her to gain 3 kilos by increasing her Burns by 1/3 and she was looking really well but I notice that she is dropping condition again. Rather than just keep upping how much she has I decided to call Burns for advice and this is what they suggested.

I fed this for a while to try and improve the condition of Murphy's coat and keep some weight on him and it worked reasonably well but I wasn't completely happy with the results (especially at that price!) as it did cause one or two runny poos!

I now feed Skinners Salmon & Rice and it is fantastic for both coat condition, keeping weight on and good poos, not to mention a lot cheaper Very Happy

Gosh that is a lot cheaper isn't it. I might look into that for Ruby - and see how she gets on with it weight wise and shine wise. Do you just feed the recommended amount per kilo as I know I was advised Burns recommendations are on the low side?

I only used the Burns feeding guide as a guideline and fed more by eye than anything else but still wasn't overly impressed by the results!

Skinners, I feed by the feeding guide and it's fab Smile

Is that the high energy lamb one?

I moved Zeph to the high energt labe as a smaller pup as the mini bites wasn't cutting the mustard as far as weight gain was concerned. It worked a treat. I've got him on the Burns Canine Active now - the vat free one. But he's taken a leap in size again and is looking like a bag of bones so I'm topping him up again with natures diet for a week or two.

The advice that Burns have given me in the past is sound, I don't think I've used that particular food - I wonder if its new?

The Canine Extra is chicken based and they mentioned the lamb one as well to try as an alternative - she usually has chicken and brown rice so they said to mix the chicken based one in to her feed.

I am tempted to try her on the Skinners and see if I have more luck with keeping weight on her as it is a constant juggling game with the Burns and her weight. I only wish I struggled to keep weight on myself as much Very Happy

I completely agree! wish it was as easy as feeding me brown balls to keep me skinny! Wink

I got Pasco on Skinners and he was the fartiest dog going! I'm lead to believe its the just really the puppy one that does that, but it put me right off!! Laughing

As shellface says, with the burns I tend to kind of ignore there feeding guide as its on the lean side for Zephyr.... for Hudson however its spot on!!

As you are on the subject of Burns and Skinners, can I but in and ask, if anyone has the farty problem with Skinners -Duck an Rice, also is it only available to buy online.

Fee, would you supplement The Burns -Canine Active with Nature Diet if Hudson was not managing to hold his weight, I do like the Burns, but do find Mischa does need a lot more than the guide to maintain her weight, she is on Lamb an Rice. Not sure if it is cost effective staying with it, but don't want to upset her tum by changing.

Thanks June

I do supplement for Zephyr he is getting Burns Active morning and Acitve and a tray of Natures Diet at night. Hudson maintains just nicely at the feeding guide.

Interestingly when I was feeding Pasco the same food as Hudson before he got sick, I had to feed Pasco about a third more than Hudson.

In terms of activity, Hudson will waste very little energy it it could be prevented where as both Pasco and Zephyr have no thought whatsoever for conserving energy, they run round like the duracell bunny!!!

So essentially I feed to the dog what it needs based on energy expenditure.
