Hi,
Just wanted to let you know how successful i have found the masterplus collar in traning my Lab Cadbury. I am sure it is not for every one but i have found it has transformed his adolescent behaviour!
I am sure most of you know about them - they are a collar that has a small gas/ air chamber that you can control with a remote control. All that happens is a short squirt of cold air is sprayed onto the dogs neck.
Cabury had been fantastic till he hit 12 months then suddenly it was like he had selective deafness! If he saw another dog that looked interesting off he would charge! 99% of time he would return on a recall but the fact that he ran of meant that I was not totally in control of him.
I have been using the collar now for 3 weeks and the change in him has honestly been almost instant - initially if he looked like he is about to run off I 'd call him to heel and distract him but if he then started to run off i would press the remote control. Without the collar he seems so fixated on getting to the other dog that my command seemed to go unheard . The spray seems to break is concentration - he hears my command and comes back!
2 weeks into using the collar and I probably only had to use the spray once or twice - all week.
This week ( week 3) I have not used the spray at all and yesterday actually had a great walk without putting the collar on him.
As I say, I am sure it is not a cure for all dog training problems but for cadbury it has been a very quick and simple solution.
Dog walks that had become quite stressful !! have now returned to being a great pleasure and i can take the children , dog and a football to the park and we can all relax and have fun!
Thats wonderful to hear Linny.
I'm really pleased you found a training aid which worked for both you and Cadbury. As you say, not all training aids work for all dogs. You have to "play around" a little and find which works for both you and your dog.

I can completely understand this. It can become very upsetting when you would rather not take your dog out because your worried what may happen. Similar to your problem, treats did not work for me either, so i had to find what did work to help my lab focus.
Well done both you and Cadbury! You have been determined enough to fix the problem and find the training aid which worked best to help yous along the way. Keep up the good work both you and Cadbury xx
Hi Goldentouch,
Thanks for your kind comments.
Yes it is just finding the motivator for each dog - they all vary so much!
I tried loads of things with Cabury with advice from training classes, video's books etc. It was a dog behavourists that I paid to have one to one lesssons with that suggested the collar to me. I was lucky because I was able to try hers first (as they are quite expensive to buy) before investing in one.
Here's looking forward to the warm summer months and lots of happy dog walks!

i agree with both of u not all dogs are the same some may take longer to train others will need something completely different up untill a few weeks ago getting out of the house with mambo was stressful just never knowing how he would react so i can understand how u feel but my boy finally seems to have turned a corner i am glad u found something that worked for both u & your dog & that u can now have stress free walks now your in control
I could have done with them on Doobs and Millie today as they were both an absolute disgrace today on their walk and I ended up coming home in floods of tears wondering if they will ever behave when they are out together. Needless to say this will be the last time they go out together on walks and will be walked seperatley from now on til I know they can behave together.
Once, just once I attempted taking both out....never again, not till Beth is sorted and they learn manners when out together.
Seperate walking ever since.....
