Hi,

I was wondering if anybody on here has had any experience of Skinners Original dog meal. It looks like readybrek and is made up to a similar consistancy by mixing with water.

I wanted to give it a try as it is supposed to be good for dogs that bolt their food, and boy, do I own one of those!! My young dog chokes and gags on normal kibble as he eats so fast. One day his back legs almost collapsed but he still didn't get his head out of the bowl.

Anyway, I tried samples which he ate very nicely but the food itself certainly looks unusual, apparently it is an old fashioned food but still sells very well according to the makers.

The ingedients are steam cooked flaked wheat, meat and meat derivatives, steam cooked flaked maize, porridge oats, wheat bran, white fish meal, vitamins and minerals. I realise it may be a little cereal heavy but the meat content is 23%. It has no artificial ingredients or preservatives.

I wondered if anyone had used it and if it was any good (or not).

thanks for any thoughts.

I've never used that one but have used their Field and Trial. Personally I use Masters foods, Meaty Crunch which is a maintenance food during the summer and Performance Plus during the shooting season.

Skinners often sponsor gundog working tests and when younger, Anna won a 15kg sack of Skinners Field and Trial. I must say I was quite impressed with it and were I not able to get Masters for any reason then Skinners Field and Trial would be the food I would feed.

Bare in mind that as Field and Trial is is aimed at working dogs it is Vat Free!
