Hi,,
Can anyone recommend what I could add to Ted, my mini dachshunds food to make his stools a bit softer as they are usually very hard to the extent that he seems to be having some problems passing them? He's fed on James Wellbeloved morning and evening and has a chunk of raw carrot once a day and the odd treat. He has sardines as an extra a couple of times a week.
He's got a bit of a sensitive stomach and about once a month he gets what my old Grandma would have described as a bilious attack where you can hear his stomach gurgling, he eats grass frantically, brings up frothy vomit and goes off his food for half a day. I usually then give him some scambled egg or chicken and rice for his tea and he's fine the next day. Apart from this he seems in excellent health and the only trouble I have with him is keeping his weight down as he's only a little fellow and is very greedy!
Thanks in advance,
Becs and the Gang

Hi Becs

I am no expert by any means but would giving him some weetabix with goats milk help at breakfast ?
Just thought the fibre might help. But obviously if he has a sensitive stomach you might already know wether this agrees with him or not .

Poor Ted !

Ooo just read that thread Vicky. I never knew that.

Hi, Becs,

I have a similar problem with my old girl Tara if I feed her dry food (she gets all bunged up Rolling Eyes ). I've now switched her right over to wet food and she's fine. I've been feeding both of them on Chappie (stinky I know but they love it) as I was having such difficulties getting Naturediet. Tara's poos have been perfect and it's had the added bonus of slimming down Mojo, as it's low in fat. I give Tara just that (no bickies added) and I put some vegs in to pad it out for Mojo (cause she's always hungry Rolling Eyes ).

It's supposedly good for sensitive tums too, although my two have the constitution of oxen, so I couldn't tell you if it works there Wink .

Jules.

Thanks for the advice. I did use Chappie last week when they all had upset-tums - they all went mad for it and spent about 5 minutes just licking their bowls to make sure not a spot was left. I think I'll give that another go.
Jules - what vedg do you mix with it and do you cook/steam/liquidize it or leave it 'au natural'?
Does anyone add bran to their dogs food? - I'm sure I read that you could do that if your dog tends to be on the 'hard' side!
Thanks a lot - Becs

I use whatever veg I can get. At the moment I'm using Tesco's frozen farmhouse mixed veg (peas, carrots, broccolli, cauli, ). I just pop it in the microwave, same as I would if I was having it (lazy I know Laughing ).

I can't say I've ever used bran on the dogs, but I know it has undesirable (and potentially explosive) effects if I have any Laughing Laughing .

Jules.
