Hmmm.just been looking at chart on food bag,Marley is on Skinners, apparently he isn't getting full amount?I was feeding 280g per day (3 meals)plus treats,he should be on about 400 according to Skinners? He is 13 weeks and a week ago at the vets he weighed 9.5kg,so he seems to be putting on a kg a week at the mo Rolling Eyes ,so seems fine.Just upped him to 100g per meal.Is this just a guideline,it's just i don't want him fat, but also worry he isn't getting enough nutrition.Vet said he is just right.Sorry i'm going on now! Laughing
Also, why is it that as they get bigger they bag says they should be on smaller amounts than when they are small? Is it because they are only on 2 meals per day then,or because they need more goodness when they are smaller puppies? Confused

well you give your pup what 4 meals a day?? well in them 4 meals is the same goodness as teh 2 bowls you give the adult dog just that your spacing the pups meals out because he is young and when they bigger them 4 small meals will be no good they then need there 2 nice bowls of foood which will fill em up..lol..

as for all the stuff on ingredients i feed my labs working dogs feed from my local livery its not a named brand like everyone else feeds on here,
but my labs are thriving on it and the vet says there coats and condition is great i do make sure they get there tin of pilchards twice a week though..lol. (not sure if you can feed pilchards to a young up though??)

as for the getting fat if the dog is excerised regulary and not over fed (try and do the guide lines for your age of pup) then i cant see why you would end up with a fat dog.

your vet will tell you if your dog wasnt the right weight or in good condition so i wouldnt worry to much Smile

dexterslab yep i sure do..lmao.. its great stuff my labs love it

its a great place larton we get the 15kg bag breederpack dog complete for working dogs. lasts me about 1month with both labs.

most ppl on here use the named brands i used to use the dry pedigreechum but came off it wasnt happy with it, like you say you use burns your dogs are happy on it so at the end of the day its up to you as far as i see it as long as our dogs are fit and healthy then carry on feeding them what you do (ps its cheaper though..lmao)

do you go to lartons often?

My weight watching Vet Nurse says that the guidelines are 'just that'. Each dog has individual needs. She's obsessive re pet weights and will often give 'fat pet' owners a friendly ticking off. If the owners are fat.....oops!
Puppies nutritional requirements will be higher than an adults because they are growing. Mine get the minimum amount for their weight to allow for the walking treats. If they start to gain weight I pull back on the treats rather than the food.
The vet will be the first one to moan if he's getting too big, I also find my vet nurses are a valuable source of info and it tends to be gained through conversation and tends to be free!
Jet weighs in at 30 kg- which is a bit light for his build and Willow at 25kg which I think is a bit heavy but still not a concern for Sal- who would tell me especially as she needs to keep her weight off to protect her hips.

thanks Laughing yes i always seem to be at lartons, but there's just too much choice!!! it's a great place for me to get over my horse phobia too Cool i was just asking out of curiosity really, mine are doing well on Burns, but I like to have a reserve list of dog food if I ever had to change - because of intollerances, finances, etc.

Ali, a lot of the feed makers tend to over estimate what a pup needs, if Marley is doing well on what you feed and the vets happy both of which you`ve mentioned, then I`d leave well alone.

You say Marley is putting on around a kilo a week?, I don`t think you want him putting anymore than that on, too much to soon will put pressure on his joints.

Clair has explained the difference in pup and adult feeding so I won`t go over that Smile
