Enid has been on Burns fully for over a week and she loves it. She always hated any dry food but she wolfs it down!

The only problem is she seems to be hungry all the time. She has never been allowed our food (unless we drop it and she is too quick) Laughing , but over the past few days she has become a nightmare. She will lunge at you and take whatever you are eating off the plate or your hand. She gets put out of the room now as she really is starting to hurt Confused She has also started raiding the bin.

She weighs 15.5 kg at 5 months and I give her 220 g of puppy bites over 3 meals. She should have 250 kg but we take some off for treats. she gets an aqua snack and a keltie/or chewitz and a small amount of coachies for training.

Would she be better on the adult food or should we just up the puppy food a bit? I worry about her getting fat but she needs treats to train her.

Also shouldn't they be putting on weight at this age? She has only put on 1/2 kg in three weeks

Sorry for being such a fuss pot! Rolling Eyes

I would try upping her Burns intake a little the back is only a guide and some dogs need more, Majic is on more than what is stated on the back of the bag, also try adding warm water let it cool then let her have it the water added can make them feel fuller as it swells the biscuits.

Does she look thin to you can you feel her ribs but not see them?

It also takes them a while to adjust to the new food regime as you feed less of the Burns as you would a more commercial dog food. Very Happy

Thanks for the reply- I don't really want to add anything to her food at the moment as this is the first time she has actually shown an interest in dry food! If we add anything more interesting she won't touch it any more.
Enid loves pedigree puppy food- I think it's her favourite thing in the entire universe Laughing Our vet scared me though and said to take her off it as it is so bad for them Rolling Eyes (plus it give her diahorrea)

Thanks- tried wetting it as she is teething very badly at the moment(4 teethlost in a day yesterday) Rolling Eyes But she turns her nose up.

I was watching her play in the garden earlier and you could see all her ribs when she play bows. Mind you, I always have been able to and she comes from working stock and her mother wasn't that big.

Might up it a bit tomorrow. Can't have her stealing if she did love the mustard smothered bagel top she pinched yesterday Laughing

Majic is from working stock so is leaner but you can't see her ribs at all but you can feel them just by pressing lightly.

I was told when I asked a similar question that they should be putting on about 0.5kg-1kg as a puppy but I have just found out that this tends to slow about the 9 month mark. Very Happy

hmmm- think I will up the amount tomorrow then. Mind you some days she looks massive- especially if she's lolling roung on the sofa trying to lie on my head Laughing

She was very sick the other night- got up to lots of vomit in the cage so that probably hasn't helped the weight situation much Rolling Eyes Thought she'd gotten over her sick phase (used to vomit a lot) but looks like something started her off again the other night!

Hi

Maybe she would be better being weaned onto the adult food, i weaned abbey onto it at 6 months and i feed her 200g of it divided by 2 meals.
It might fill her up a bit more. Enid might just have a high metabolism and be burning her calories off quickly which is making her hungry?

I would feed a little more. She is growing and needs all the nutriton she can get to support her growth. I go by the look of the dog rather then the recommendations on the bag. If in doubt about how much to feed, ask your breeder.

is the volume of Burns a lot less than the food she was on previously? When I swapped Ruby over she went from 300g of her rubbishy food to 80g of Burns Shocked (she was 4kg at the time) and ruby scavenged for britain! All I did was bulk it out for a little bit I found she was happy at 130g a day so did 90% burns and 10% old food for a while and then as she grew lessed the amount of old. I think its quite common for labs new to burns to miss the bulk as burns is high in nutrition you dont feed as much.

Ruby is 16kg and nearly 7 months and she stayed the same weight this week and did before once too she has gained half a kilo every week other than that never more. I dont reduce the amount for treats though as she has never gained too much so I feed 240g burns (after 6 months burns recommed 15g per 1kg rather tahn 20g per kg)

HTH
