I don't have any dog shampoo but today Dexter rolled around on some muddy grass and I really want to give him a bath.

Is there anything I can use instead? Warm water with a dash of cider vinegar possibly...?

Any suggestions much appreciated, thank you Smile

I'd use just warm water if its only a bit of mud. Normally when Berry gets dirty I just hose her off but warm water may help to shift the mud if its quite substantial!

I've used everything from Pantene to Washing Up Liquid on mine. As long as it's not a regular thing and they haven't got sensitive skin, it's not going to do the any harm Wink .

I very rarely use anything other than water but did resort to some baby bath lurking in the back of our bathroom cabinet after molly rolled in stinky sticky poo the other week....

no idea about vinegar but tbh I hate the smell of vinegar so wouldn't want to bury my face into fur smelling of that Wink

I tend to use Johnson's Baby Shampoo as it is quite gentle (and smells lovely!), but I have a friend who swears by Tresemme! Use whatever is handy - as Jules said, it shouldn't do any harm Very Happy

Like Jules says Wink Mine have whatever i'm using at the time which is usually whatever is two for one at Sainsburys Wink

As long as you wash it out thoroughly its perfectly fine unless you know for sure they are in the tiny minority of canines who have allergies and so on, which would be as rare as a human reacting to a run of the mill shampoo.

I no longer buy dog shampoo these days. I just use Tesco Value Baby Shampoo instead. Charlie rarely if ever seems to need done, but I do Topsy (cocker spaniel) every few weeks, or whenever she has rolled in anything. Her coat gets longish, picks up so much more dirt, and tends to go a bit whiffy over time.

As Jules says, as long as it isn't all the time then it shouldn't be a problem. Baby shampoo is particularly mild, and smells good too. Very Happy

If it is just mud though then it would probably just brush out once dry. I do that too. Very Happy
