Cut out all snacks, treats etc. Only let her have her main meals, morning and evening (or whichever way you feed) and Increase her exercise.

Are bitches more prone to putting on weight after they've been spayed? If so, that's probably what did it, so don't kick yourself! You probably just need to be a bit more careful with the treats now she's been done.

cant help much but I know burns recommend feeding overweight dogs their allowance for their ideal weight not their current weight ie if you prefer her to be 25kg then you would feed 10g or 15g whatever you are doing x25kg not the 28 that she currently is. Also would the weetabix be necessary couldnt you just split her burns half way and feed that twice a day as i havent a clue how much you would reduce burns by to allow for a weetabix. Good luck hope it all goes well for you both Wink

I`d cut out the weetabix and milk to Sandy, Millie doesn`t need it, still give her the two meals a day but split the days quota between the two.

As Jill says no more treats, exercise will be difficult as she still under the 5 min rule, she should be getting around 45 mins, ideally some of that should be running.

Does she go off lead for a run around?

I agree with the other decrease her food and increase the exercise. It might be a goo idea to stop the weetabix and skimmed milk in the morning to the same as what she has at night. Just as a guide line I think girls should not weigh more than 26/27kgs fully grown but of course all dogs are different, when she gets to 12 months you could choice a lite version of your dog food if they do it. I had to keep my Kimmy's weight down and after he had 'the op' his weight went up from 26kgs(at 7months) to 28kgs (at 9 months) so at 12 months(1/3/06) I went onto lite food and a couple of weeks ago Kimmy's weight was back down to 27kgs I have also now increase his exercise as he is over the year mark.

Boy dogs are bigger than girls and there weight should be no more than 30kgs.

As mentioned all dogs are different as long as you can feel there ribs but not see them then they are fine and as long as you are happy. Some say that it depends if they are from working stock or show stock. Show Stock tend to be a bit bigger build.

Hope this has helped.

Ann

Burns do a High oats which is designed for dogs that need to loose weight why not give their nutrition advice line a ring, they are so helpful.

If you're continuing with Burns, I personally wouldn't add anything else. If she won't eat it alone after 20 mins or so, I'd take it away until next meal time. Fair enough if YOU choose to add something to her meals, but if it's because she's fussy, then it's really her calling the shots!!! It's when you start giving in that it's easy for weight to get out of control. I know that it feels harsh, but it really really will work.. Dexter was 'fussy', so I feed him less than the recommended amount, to keep his appetite healthy Laughing If you want to give her treats, maybe use pieces of food, from her daily allowance - it'll also make her main meal seem more like a reward.

Good luck!!

I would definately stop the weetabix and milk, give her Burns in the morning and Burns in the evening, the food is deisgned for dogs - weetabix isnt. Also cut out the pedigree pouch - its a horrible food and to combine a brilliant food like Burns with pedigree defeats the object Wink

My 2 like their treats, so they have a little less in their bowl morning and night which allows them the occsional treat.....

How much exercise does Millie get?

Also, my dogs are very fit - but they cant keep up with our friends BC either, collies are a totally different breed so its impossible to compare their fitness Wink

thanks for the replies the weetabix only started today my vet said one meal aday would be adequate and she could have maybe weetabix or porridge made with water to bulk up and stop her feeling hungry
she has been having 100g of burns in the morning and 50-100g in the evening with a pedigree pouch I know a lot of people wont use it but it seems to have stoped her from being starving and has not affected her motions she infact seems more settled does that sound daft is there any other meat /wet option anyone can recommend?
I will drop the treats she does have an hour off lead every day infact the vet suggested more exercise saying you wouldnt stop a toddler running around would you?????
