Jenson is now 7 months old and has been on dry puppy food.
How old does he have to be when changing over to adult food? He is always hungry, but I have been told it is a Labs nature to be a scav.

Took him to get weighed at the vets and he is 29kg and according to their chart he is approximately 1kg overweight.

Also if he can have adult food, what is the best. been looking at some threads and it seems 'skinners' is the popular choice.

I changed Alfie over to adult food at around 5mths and he just went onto the adult version of the puppy food he was on( beta). He was just over a year when he went onto skinners duck and rice and he has done good on it, he does have 2-3 home cooked meals a week though.

I'm looking for a new food for him, he's just not as interested in his brown balls of food anymore.

Not much help, hopefully someone more exprienced will be along soon. Very Happy

I moved Minnie over to adult food at about seven months. Naturediet say from around six months.

I think you'll get a lot of different opinions on what is the "best" Smile In terms of pet food (rather than home prepared diets) I choose to feed Naturediet (a good quality wet food with at least 60% meat).

Dry foods I think are good would include Arden Grange and Orijen. There are others that other members will recommend too.

Regarding his being "overweight" - do you think he is? Does he have a waist? Was the chart just a x month old Lab should weigh xkg type chart? If it was, I'd go by how he (honestly) looks/feels rather than a chart. Minnie is a very dainty, long-legged working type Lab and what would be overweight for her, may well be underweight for a chunkier built dog.

Hope that helps Smile

I would never go by a chart. A while ago I weighed Marley at 35 kgs at the vets and even the vet didnt believe me and made me weigh him again in front of him. The chart would have said he should be no where near that at the time, but the vet said he looked exactly as he should.

A lot of people on here who know more than me (and including our trainer) arent in favour of puppy food, so I changed Marley on to adult asap.

I agree about brown balls, every time I buy a big bag he goes off them!! We are struggling again at the moment. He did like the lamb, potatoes, peas and gravy he had last night though!

I've got Murphy on Fish4dogs complete now and have to say out of all the foods I've tried F4D seems to keep him in the best condition possible, certainly his coat and skin. Amber is on Arden Grange but am going to switch her to F4D soon too.

One of mine is on Orijen, she has always been fussy in the past and really dragged out eating but since going onto this food has been hoovering it up in no time and looking for more.
She is also in the best condition she has been in for a long time.

Most of my pups go onto to adult food at around 6-7 months, they seem to go off their pup food and try to eat the others adult food .

Great tips from all. I shall be introducing him to adult food as soon as the puppy stuff runs out.
Quite a bit to choose from for what food next, so I will do a bit more research
