Does anyone have any good ideas for fitting a dog flap to a conservatory or something similar?

We don't have a back door to our house, it's two glass doors from a conservatory. When we're home we leave the doors open so that Oscar can come and go as he please, but obviously we can't do that when we're out.

Does anyone have any ideas that might help?

Many thanks Smile

Wouldn't he get too hot if he was left in a conservatory? If he can come in & go out at will is the garden totally safe? Someone could steal him/he could hurt himself/get out if you're not careful, I've heard of labs getting out by 'digging to australia' under the fence Shocked .

Anyway if it is something you want to do there are dog flaps on the market but watch out what type because being big enough for a dog means other animals or burglars can also climb through them. I have heard of ones that only open to a chip on your dogs collar but don't know if they'd work or not. Here are some http://www.canineconcepts.co.uk/cat--Dog-Flaps-Gates--dog-flaps---dogs

No he sleeps out in the conservatory at the moment and quite enjoys it. All the windows are open across the top (x6) so it's ventilated ok. Food and plenty water there too.
The safety of dog flaps seem to be quite high mentioned on the web so I guess we may have to keep looking for other ideas.....
Thanks xx

I see so many dogs go missing/get stolen from looking through DogLost that I'd be very wary of leaving a dog with access to the garden too.

I don't know how old he is or how long he's left for but if it's too long to go without access to the garden for toileting, do you have a reliable neighbour who could pop in to let him out? Or look for a dog sitter locally?

Like others, I wouldn't like to leave him access to outside if unsupervised, there was a thread on here recently with someone asking about doing such a thing and all sorts of horror stories came up. It may sound like a good idea and a caring one to give him access but I dont like to give a dog too much free rein as so much can go wrong especially at a young age and to be honest they dont need it!

Yeah, I didn't mean to sound negative earlier but I had considered letting Sam have a door to go in and out then I found what mischief he could get into and then heard a lot of those stories about theft and had a panic and rethink. Sad

I bet Oscar loves it in the conservatory then Sammi, the windows would be a good level to look out of and see the garden, Sam likes to look out of windows, he loves going in the Motorhome (and now the car too Smile ) for that because he can sit in the window and watch everyone going past.
