Ive noticed (and others) that my lovely Honey has started to get a little chunky, i have started takin her on long runs (about 5/6 miles and a little swiw, i sometimes bike next to her aswel so she runs abit quicker at times.

Is this too much for her as she wont be used to it? or will she be fine
Should i stick to lead walks ?
Thanks

How old is she?

Once they are past a year old, you can gradually build up the amount and type of exercise they get and then the sky's the limit really. We have some dogs here who hike mountains for many hours regularly...and it certainly does them no harm Wink .

I was going to ask the same as Jules - what age is she? Smile

If she has been built up to do that amount of exercise then it will be absolutely fine.

But if she's only ever been used to a 30 minute stroll around the park and then she is suddenly doing 6 mile runs then I'd say yes, that's far too much too soon!

It's like asking someone who rarely does much exercise to compete in a marathon lol.

Build her up gradually and safely. My dogs can easily do a 9+ hour hike or hillwalk, but they have been built up to do this. Initially we done trail walks with them, then built it up to say a few small hills, then a bit of trail and hills and then mountains, gradually building up to the hikes which are harder and harder terrain etc.

They need to build the muscle and stamina.

She doesn't look like she needs to loose weight in her picture though Smile
